I have a 03 PX125 which i am in the process of try to get running right, it is fitted with a spaco 20/20 carb but according to the Haynes manual it should have a Dellorto SI 24/24G ?. For now i just want the motor in standard form, i have had the carb off dismantled cleaned etc, the plug that was fitted was a b6hs but was told to fit a br7hs which i did, the scooter will start (eventually) and seems to be fine ticking over good and revving high with no hunting or flat spots but when left for 10 minutes or so refuses to start and the plug becomes wet, after swapping for a dry plug it starts immediately, this is a recurring theme i have to keep swapping plugs to get it running. what i wanted to know is what is the correct carburettor to use and which grade of spark plug, the manual states a champion plug that doesn't exist anymore? Thanks in advance Malcolm

my haynes manual has the 125 and 150 models listed using the 20/20 carb and the 200 using the 24/24. Dellorto have not made those carbs for years and spaco is original fitment from later piaggio models. With starting issues probably worth checking jet sizes and that float needle is shutting off and not flooding carb to start with.

I think your plug should be NGK b6hs

Ian I agree with Ian, but I used ngk bp7hs as it gives a better spark for a non kitted scoot. Again, the carb you want is the 20/20 spaco, I wonder if the slide is sticking? Check the jet sizes with what's in your manual, but stick to the 20/20 parts.

how is the scoot when it is being ridden? any problems? Its not ideal to leave your scoot on tick over for too long

Thanks for your replies although as I said I had stripped the carb and am sure the float and slide are ok,I think I'll order a new 20/20 in standard form from sip and try a new correct plug.I know the carb had been played around with by the previous owner as he had fitted a thick rubber washer behind the choke pull out preventing it from returning fully? My guess is he adjusted the carb to run lean and compensated by having the choke out! While I'm waiting for the carb to arrive I'll whip the head off for a decoke its probably like the inside of a chimney by now, am I right in thinking they don't use head gaskets? Thanks again Malcolm

Hi face, when it's being ridden its faultless it's just that as soon as you stop and switch off you can bet it won't restart until the plug been changed

Hello. You should have an SI 20/20D on your scooter. the 24/24G is at T5 carb. sounds like your choke isn't shutting off properly.

Just a quick update, i had a very slight oil weep from the "glass" indicator so while waiting for the new carb i took out the tank and sorted that, while i was there i also renewed the fuel and oil lines just for good measure! then whipped of the head and mirror polished the combustion chamber, after fitting the new carb along with a ngk bp7hs plug the scoot is like a different machine altogether, thanks everyone for your advice

That's the first time I've heard those break!! Still, at least you're back up and running...

Just for reference, go on the wasp performance website and look up your model and year. It will tell you exactly what carb, jets and plug you should have and then go up a couple of main jet sizes to accommodate your sip exhaust. This might prove to be a wee bit rich but if your running a rebore in that's not necessarily a bad thing. Hope this helps.
