Hi! I grew up in Hull in the '80s and my first scooter was a 150 Super that I couldn't legally ride. I sold that and bought a 50 Special which I fitted with a 90 engine to make it as fast as a 50 should be... Anyway, getting my licence back after an indiscretion I briefly flirted with Lambrettas (in the days of being able to buy a garage full for £150) before buying a brand new PX125E. I was in the RAF by this point and needed reliable transport. I passed my test on that in 1985 and did 10,000 miles in a year before trading it in for a 200. I got into VW Beetles a couple of years later but I've had various scooters since then; a P200E, Rally 200, another couple of Lambrettas (briefly) then a P125ETS, followed by another PX200E. I had to sell the last couple due to employment issues but I've finally felt settled enough to get a 150 Standard (VBB2T) which I'm planning on modifying internally. It's not a cherished model so nobody should be too offended. I live in Tetbury now, in Gloucestershire, and it would be nice to see if anyone around here has a Vespa; it's hardly what you call a 'scooter town,' though, as horses and antiques seem to be the prevalent milieu!

A mate of mine had a new one in 1986 but I modified mine quite a bit (in 2011), with a PX front disc and 130 Parmakit with Malossi reed valve and Franz exhaust etc. I had the chance to buy it back recently but opted for the VBB as I wanted to start from the beginning again but with a more 'classically' styled Vespa. I'll post some pictures when I can; I suppose it will have to be Dropbox or the like, with the forum being full.

looks great, hello and welcome Ian Thanks! Yes, it looks great... I did a bit of work on it yesterday but everywhere I look it needs work. You get what you pay for, I suppose. On the plus side it's a reed valve engine, which is why it picks up so well, and the gearbox oil did still have some life in it when I drained it. The downsides are many including a weak neutral detent which I'm working on (don't need it vibrating into gear on the stand) and every cable appears to be second hand. Headlight bulb appears to have been filed down from a domestic 40w.
