Would love to say my first record was when I stole 'London Calling' by The Clash. But it wasn't. I saved my pocket money and bought the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack instead.
My God, what am I telling you this for?

haha - at least you weren't a freak like me and bought the film soundtrack to 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom', just 'cos I used to fancy Harrison Ford - that was after I scribbled all over my dad's George Formby record covers with crayons and told to scribble on my own instead - haha

I think I may have bought either a Gary **itter single or sweet or some other glam record, but can vividly remember buying Lonely This Xmas - Mud. Is this therapy or confessional??? I have other crimes against music to be taken into account, but i'll need alcohol before I come clean.

The first single I bought was the Thunderbirds Theme by The Barry Gray Orchestra. Ironically, the b-side was the Joe 90 Theme, which is actually pretty cool.
Sadly I let myself down with the first album I ever bought, which was Kings of the Wild Frontier by Adam & The Ants. My only defence is that it was a birthday present for my sister.

I have other crimes against music to be taken into account, but i'll need alcohol before I come clean. I caught Gary Glitter laying low at Jorvik Viking Centre in York a few years back. You go round on this dodgy sort of ghost train thing and as I passed a couple of long-boats there he was, cool as you like .... gawping right at me, complete with plucked eye-brows, shaved head and evil grin. He was the only one about without a horned hat on. I s*it you not, it was the spit of him. By the time I got my camera out we had swung a corner and were in a paper mache Viking iron mongers. He hadn't even flinched, the fiendish scamp.

;D Oh my God Lucia that really is sad! good job ur bro never told us that in college, the ribbin he would of got lol ;D ;D I think his first record was either Tubby the Tuba www.tubbythetuba.com/ or the Blue Cat (Magic Roundabout) which was a bit scary. ;D But really, David Bowie was my obsession ('Heroes' and 'Low' bought from Skeleton Records in Birkenhead - and still there folks ) and strangely, The Beatles (when everyone else was into either Wham or Duran Duran)

I had a dedication played on Radio City when I was about three, I'm sure it was Boy From New York City by The Darts. I think they had some cred, even with that clown Den Haggerty gurning on the stage.
Just had a look at the old vinyl, and realised I have several records that pre-date my first purchases because they were bought for us. There's a nursery rhymes record, Swallows & Amazons (basically just a recording of the film) and a couple of Wombles singles. I also definitely had The Magic Roundabout - Dougal and Buxton The Blue Cat, which was the stuff of nightmares. Don't know what happened to that though.

So did my dad. And a Showaddywaddy LP called Crepes and Drapes on cassette. He had some good stuff too, his musical taste's always been, shall we say, eclectic.
