Hi all Mod at heart and for a very long time I've wanted to own my own vespa. A number of years ago I spoke with a guy who will source an old frame, strip it, paint it and rebuild her up as a restoration project. Not silly money either, he's an avid fan and loves doing them. Owns a few himself. What I'm looking is some expert advice from the wealth of experience in here to help me decide what my first scooter should be. It will be used for Sunday runs and social events. Maybe in years when the ankle biters move on, the wife and I could do longer ventures. So it needs to stand the test of time. I love the super and super sprints. I appreciate any useful advice I get. Thanks TC

Hi and welcome. You could go for a sprint with a px engine, reckon the parts are much easier to find. Failing that, a px with electric start, but with the gs body kit on it. All the fun of the fair then, classic looks with the electric start too. Parts are so easy to get for the px, get the one with front disc brake and you're well on the way.

Hi and welcome. Get whatever floats your boat, any scoot can be upgraded when you have the experience/time/ money.

Hi, as the guys said above, but why not get an old tatty PX for cheap, upgrade as you go, gaining confidence as you do the modifications yourself, starting small, even if its just replacing old rusty steel nuts and bolts with shiny stainless steel fasteners you need to start somewhere. And then when you finally decide what you want send the scooter for painting, engine work etc. to a professional.
happy scootering!

Thanks guys for all your advice. Came across a really clean 1965 sprint frame for a reasonable price. No filler, no rust, sandblasted and primed. Wasn't too badly priced so impulsively bought it. Here begins the journey.... Wish me luck. No doubt I will be scouring the threads for help along the way.

Going to try and keep it as close to original as possible. Only convert the engine to 12v possibly. I've heard pros and cons of getting a ready converted 12v engine against converting the 150 to 12v.what's your thoughts?
