Ok guys here goes fitted a battery about 6month ago, only worked the starter a few times then stopped. I didn’t bother about it,, just kicked started it,But now I’d like it working (only because it’s got one)it’s there so I want it working So how do I check what powers getting to the battery to keep it charged, old battery no longer holds a charge if I remove the battery and and start the scoot ,,put a multimeter on what voltage should I get, without a battery fitted ?

Have you tried charging the battery? is it really dead?

You can get a battery conditioner which once fitted, will keep topping the battery up. Not sure how/what/why fitted to such a high powered, motorbike abusing, Tarmac hoovering Vespa, as whether it would work properly. Can't see why not mind..... Take a look at this on eBay:- 121026112176 Seriously though, my mate uses it on a 125 Yamaha, and I've used them on cars, ideal for machines that don't get used too often.

Quickest check is put volt meter across battery with it connected, should give you some reading, kick it up and it should go to over 12v whilst running if it's charging.
Over 14v and danger regulator is overcharging so killing the battery pretty quick.
P.s I use trickle chargers on my cars and bikes, but not critical on the PX given you can start it even if flat, if the system and battery are ok it will recharge after a short run out.

Ok ..I bought new battery, charged it .only lasted a few starts and stopped, never bothered with it after that.
I removed the battery, charged it up,and every day it dropped, now it’s got 7.9 after 3 days sitting on a kitchen worktop.
Decided to get electric start working,So bought a new battery. But don’t want to fit it if it’s going to drain and ruin the new battery ,,,so can I charge up the old battery then fit it,and check what voltage it’s getting.

Here goes ,, I put the battery on charge ,then got a call from the wife saying it was stinking like rotten eggs 🍳 Told her to unplug the charger,, Got home and it was 9.9 v Put in in the vespa, started it up (kick) and on holding a good rev it’s at 12.66v Think it should be a good bit higher So what do I need To replace ,,adjust,,

Presume it was the old battery you tried?
Sounds like the plates in the old one are fried which is why it won’t hold charge.
I think the max should be something like 14v to charge the battery any more and you will fry it.
I’d be tempted to stick the new one on and try the same, see if it goes over 14v at revs, I don’t think you will kill it immediately even if it is over charging.

Doesn't sound good...as already said 12.6v at rest is good and and up to 15.0v with a decent amount of revs. Definitely sounds like a new regulator is needed.

Scooters, are you getting 13.55 volts when reving the engine?, or does the voltage increase as you rev your engine? either way 13.55 should be enough to charge the battery.
