Still fettling away at the wee Px125e- thought I had it all sorted & mot looked a likely prospect bar a wee issue with indicators which I have now got sorted ( thanks to the sticky here !! - lifesaver ) when I noticed an oil stain / drip on exhaust just below cyclinder. Whipped out the plug and it’s quite oily. Bearing in mind this engine has only done less than 20 miles following complete rebuild including new piston & rings. I’m guessing the ring gap is too big & allowing oil to pass through ?? Checked Haynes manual and they suggest on a 2 stroke it could be over lubrication ..... Can anyone pinpoint the likely problem & resolution?
Other than that she starts first kick and sounds sweet .. Thanks as always 👍🏻

If it's pre mix in the fuel and the ratio is correct I think it would be likely to be some other cause. Can you see the source of the leak? Don't mean to teach you to suck eggs but is the barrel and head torqued down enough?

Thanks Phattanglo, didn’t check tbh as i was in a bit of a rush but will get a good look tomorrow. She’s a premix so def don’t think it’s an over lubrication issue. I took it out after I noticed stain just to see if she was still running ok and noticed a slight loss of power going through the gears under moderate acceleration but will get a good look tomorrow to see if it’s anything obvious!

Had a real good look around cyclinder head this morning to check it was tight - nothing obvious but seems to be the leak is coming from the cyclinder / barrel joint so perhaps by just nipping the nuts up another wee bit might help .... time will tell ! Took cylinder head off for a nosey and a lot of oil on it and also on top of piston crown - would that suggest a seal has failed ?? Thanks M

Do you think the oily top end might be ring gap as you first thought? As you've already done 20 miles you would think you can rule out engine not getting up to proper running temperature. Do you think incomplete ignition could be the cause of the oily top end? Did it feel lumpy when you were riding it like it was misfiring or anything like that? Silly question I know but is the jetting. Ok it's not running really rich is it?

Thanks phattanglo - after some investigations it turns out the oil mix screw in the carb was badly set. Screwed it all the way back in tight then lossened 1 1/2 turns and then took it for a short run. Plug checked on return and it’s a lovely chocolate/ tan colour and dry ! No evidence of oil. Still a wee bit lumpy under moderate acceleration esp when cold but still very much running the engine in so might need further investigation to get things just right.
