The gears on my 125 are not engaging. I was driving along and the bike cut out. Got it going and it went into first for about 200 yards and after that its not going into gear. Cables etc all good. Is this a cruciform that needs changing? If so I'm going to give it a go and try and replace it myself. Any advice please

Trev, may be clutch related? Is yours working?
Could be the arm on your selector box broken?
Good luck.

I'd pull the selector box off and check the arm, and the shaft the selector arm slots into, then move on to clutch issues. hope its something easy.so you dont have to split the motor.

Thanks Guys for your response's. I have checked the gear selector arm in the selector box and that's ok. When the bike is jacked up off the ground the gears seems to engage when I turn the wheel. Your can see the parts that moves in and out when selecting your gears. It feels that its selecting all gears when I go through them. When I put in back on the ground the gears are not selecting and the bike will move forward without a bite. When its in gear it shouldn't move. I have never changed the clutch since I got it mind, 2003. Has been fine. If its the clutch in your option would it be quicker and easier to buy a full package then playing around with springs and disks? Never done this job either.

When it was driving, did it slip out of any gears? 2 or 3 perhaps?
Are you 100 percent sure your clutch is working?
Did you remove the selector box?

Yeah selector box was fine. just won't twist into a gear. Going to take out the clutch and have a look. When it happened on the road I pushed it home and noticed that the rear shock had gone. This has now been replaced. This can't be linked eh?

Trev, a quick way to check if your clutch is working is, with the ignition switched off ( as we're not trying to start the scooter)with the scoot in neutral and with the clutch lever pulled in, when you kick the kickstart, it should move and you'll feel no resistance, like your kicking fresh air, so to speak, that means the clutch is working, if you keep kicking as you slowly release the clutch lever at some point, the kickstart will catch and you'll feel resistance and the flywheel will turn. That means all good.
If you kick the kickstart with the clutch lever in and you get resistance and the flywheel turns= faulty clutch OR stretched clutch cable.
Good luck.

Thanks, sorry for not replying but been away. Will try that tomorrow. What I did find out was the rear wheel had movement left and right and the the big wheel nut was abit loose. Have tightened it up and put in a new split pin. It feels better so going to fire it up tomorrow.

Trev, hope you haven't stripped the splines on your back hub or layshaft, may be worth checking 😉

Well it good news is the bike is fixed. It seems it was just the hub wheel nut that needed tightening up. Changes gear as it was. So thanks for the all the advice and help this is what makes the site so good!!!
