I am chastising myself for leaving off this poll Cliff Bennett, of Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers.
Respect due.

I was lucky enough to go to the Soul'd On Blues tour in Kings Lynn last night, where I saw Cliff Bennett, Herbie Goins and Chris Farlowe. It was an excellent night, and I have to say that despite being a big Chris Farlowe fan, and being very excited about seeing Herbie Goins, it was Cliff Bennett that was the highlight. What a great voice he still has, and a great entertainer to boot.
Review to follow on the main site, when I get my arse in gear and do the Pretty Things review I've been meaning to write for a month.

I've just discovered Steve Aldo as well. Not literally; I didn't find him hiding in my garden or anything, I got a compilation CD for Christmas with one of his songs on it. Incredible voice, but he only released two singles in 65/66 when he was just 18, Can I Get A Witness/Baby What You Want Me To Do, and Everybody Has To Cry. Came from Liverpool, I wonder what happened to him. I recently got a copy of a history of all the old Liverpool bands by German DJ Manfred Kuhlmann. Steve Aldo's name crops up in a few bands, but he disappeared from the scene a few years ago. It's also sad to see how many of the old Mersey musicians never made it to old age.

Watch this space for news of Beryl Marsden! Spence, Has Beryl been in touch? If not, I'll give you the email address of her record company. Went to visit my brother last week and he's got a picture taken last year of him and Beryl on his conservatory wall! I want that one!

Paul Jones, and he gets bonus points for being one of the best R&B harp players ever, certainly the best white one.
