Hi,
I'm in the process of checking/overhauling my Sportique engine.
The casing is opened up and I'm wondering what I should replace apart from the obvious new oil seals/gaskets.
I'm wondering if it's worth removing the crank. The scooter has only done 9077 miles and the inside of the engine seems pretty clean.
Given the crank has roller main bearings, would it be acceptable to leave these alone and maybe just check the big end sideways end float?
I can't feel any ridge whatsoever in the cylinder bore so I was going to keep that.
I need to replace the piston as it was damaged when I removed the top end with a big hammer. I know this was stupid but I had a senior moment (intense frustration to be honest).
Any advise will be gratefully received......

The crank will need to come out to do the oil seals anyway, if the key way looks ok and no obvious play in the bearings I'd leave alone, though it depends what trauma you inflicted on it removing the piston ;-)
Get the barrel lightly honed for the new piston and gap the new rings, no need to rebore if no damage, presume the piston is the original size, hopefully you see the size on the crown ok.
Check the cruciform is not overly worn, the clutch basket springs and the rivet all good and secur and should be good to go with the new crank and hub seals.

Many thanks Bryno. This is really useful advice.
I have a couple of additional questions......
Feeler gauge measurement of the end float for the big end...ie the amount the big end will move in line with its journal, appears to be at least 40 thou. Is this acceptable?
I've seen honing tools on ebay for less than £15. Do you have any knowledge of how good these are? Even if it did only this job (once) I'd be happy with the cost.
Thanks again...
