Morning everyone, it's your favourite questions guy back again...
So I've been having trouble with my electric start for some time now and not really got to the bottom of it. I've tried the obvious stuff (checking wires and fuses and batter levels etc) and still nothing... I've not done anything with the CDI yet so this might actually be the issue but... On the advice of most people I think I'm going to just pull the electric start off at the weekend.
I've found a couple of guides on the interweb but just wanted to ask here is anyone has any insider tips? Is it as simple as unbolting the starter, black tape on the wires and blacking the hole?
Do I removed the CDI? (Not 100% sure what this does other than electric stuff...)
Sorry, totally uneducated on this sort of thing.
Cheers for the help. Kriss.

Remove the motor, tape the black cable and tuck out of the way. If you want you can remove the studs and replace with short bolts but that's just for tidiness it's not necessary. Finally a blanking grommet to stop crap getting into the stator etc and your good to go. Don't remove the cdi cos you'll just have a piece of art instead of a vehicle 😁

Cheers dude.
Yer I wasn't sure about the CDI... Guess that means I might have to get a new one if it's toast.
I'll probably bung the hole for now and get a plate knocked up.
Thanks again.

I know. I really need to order one... Shame on me.
So there was one wire I hadn't wiggled... Was abit crusty. Cleaned it up and now it's working fine again. Might put off taking it off for now. Still, it's time will come. Unnecessary weight will be stripped off soon.
Cheers for the advice. I'll come back and use it eventually.
Cheers. Kriss.

I know leccy starts must weigh a fare bit , but how much diff would it make to your speed to remove it ? Not much I bet . Each to their own etc , but I like mine for those embarasing "stalls" we all have at lights/junctions etc ! Also sometimes on mine when I use the kickstart when I'm sat on the scoot in traffic its easy to slip and catch my shin on the floorboards removing several layers of skin in the process ! Not nice ! I've got plenty of scars to prove it ! I would leave it on till its really knackered ! 👌
Cheers.

Swm, they do weigh a fair bit but I think it did help my top speed.... I removed the starter, plated the hole, taped up the rogue wire, and changed the flywheel for a non electric start one (think I replaced the cover?? Can't remember now...) to me it seemed to fly!! I had a standard barrel with scorpion exhaust at the time, very light porting (by a mate with a dremel in a shed.... Tidied up edges I guess), and a backrest that cost a pack of L&B..... 😆

I still have the electric start working fine on both of mine. Will remove it if it ever breaks but so handy when stalling in traffic.

I'm normally in the if it ain't broke don't fix it came. I was broke but now it's fixed... Probably just leave it on until it stops again. Like you say, it's good for traffic stalls and it does start first go with the starter when warm, unlike the kickstart....

I just can't seem to get the hang of kick starting while on the scooter If I stall / cut out at lights I'd be in deep sh*t,💩 If it weren't for the little button (now going pink with the sun)
