Hi chaps and chapesses I was just after some help. I have a vespa px 200 with a malossi 210 kit, 30 mm dellorto phbh with reed valves. My exhaust is a pm tuning expansion pipe which is attached with a U clamp to the cast aluminium exhaust stub. Long story short is the exhaust stub on the cylinder has snapped off so it is now an expensive piece of scrap. It's gonna cost me £350 for a new malossi kit. I reckon the U clamp on the exhaust is to blame. Does anyone have any experience of this? Cheers, Phil

Expensive lesson Those car u clamps can only be used on a standard 200 barrel. Everything else should use a banded clamp. The old Malossi is the worst offender, as the stub is too small. SIP make some thin packers to make it tighter, which work great.

I know, what a nightmare! So you reckon banded clamps are the way to go. I've seen those sip pieces you mention. Is a really snug fit the way to go? I'll get some. Thank you very much for the advice, I really appreciate it. Phil

yep as px guru says ,banded clamps press all the way round ,not just on 2 sides like the u-clamps do .an a snug fit=less pressure needed to get a tight seal =less chance of crushing/breaking a stub . cant you get the stub welded an machined ,would be cheaper than a new kit . H

Hi Phil, Does/did your pipe actually sit flush on the stub Because with my pm and 166 I had to dremmel of metal inside the pipe a little to allow pipe to sit correctly, All the best Pek

H Hi Henri, Yep, that make total sense about the banded clamp. I'm gonna order a new malossi kit from Wasp in Morcambe as they seem the cheapest. I'll get a banded clamp and then see how it fits the new stub. If needs be I'll buy the spacers that beedspeed sell to get a snug fit. Then hopefully I can get on with enjoying the great British summer on two wheels! Thanks for the help, Phil

H With regards fixing the existing cylinder I've had a couple of people take a look at it and both had said it would be a tricky and expensive fix. (Aluminium welding, awkward spot etc) I think I'd rather just suck it up on this occasion. Also it a chance to buy the nicer 2016 spec kit!

However it was on the scoot when I bought it so it may have fettled when initially fitted. I am however left wondering how to get the snapped exhaust stub out of the exhaust. It is well and truly stuck in there. I'm thinking it needs to be the Dremmel to the rescue.

For anyone interested,Worb5 has Malossi 210 kits with metal exhaust stubs fitted, so looks like they can be repaired.
