Being the lightweight that I am, I'm about to put my scoot away for the winter. In years gone by, all I would have done is used up most of the petrol in her, parked it up and kicked it over once every couple of weeks. Now that I have this wonderful resource, I'm wondering if there is any perceived wisdom amongst you gurus as to what, if anything, else should be done?
Cheers
Nick

If its in a dry garage I'd not bother doing anything else, I don't bother running the fuel down personally, I think with fuel in it tank less likely to rust (that's my theory anyway).

pump tyres up a bit over pressure ,prevents flat-spots , as bryno says fill with fuel no rust then, but add fuel lead additive/preservative, keeps its "bang" then , disconnect battery an top up every 2-3 months .will lose 1% charge daily an "sulphur" up if not charged . give it a kick over 2-3 times monthly an it will come out nxt spring ready to "rock n roll" . remember to re-connect battery n adjust tyres , an a new plug n oil level check an ya good to go . must say, as i thought you a northern irish-er ,gave you a honorary membership to the "northern-monkeeys " hardcore club , but this plan to store in winter leaves you perilously close to being allocated a "southern-jessie" status .not a reference to ireland or northern ireland , just how us "english" discriminate amongst ourselfs . as a lancs/scouse lad year round rider , your all foreigners an jessies to me . an before you all hand me my coat n point at the door ,ive lived south so long my relatives think ive gone "c**kney " . northen monkees . My 56 plate PX lives outside, it thinks a cover is a luxury! I'm also running it daily, people think I'm mad, I consider it normal..... And I'm a yellowbelly... 😆

I put a shot of this into a full tank and let it run a bit to get through the entire fuel system (tank, pipe , carb etc) thats it . I try and start it every week or so if its stood for a while, just to make sure alls ok . But really its seldom left for long as soon as a half descent day comes Im out to give her a once over and a run out . Any excuse forra spin ! Cheers.

I also have to leave my scoot locked up over the winter.... And i tend to either just leave it as is, or with the ethanolic fuel nowadays, i run the carb dry.. Like others, i also leave the tank full to prevent rust. I also disconnect the battery but didn't bother this time. Some say let the tyres down and raise the wheels off the ground. Mine are pumped up right now. I must be a right jacket wearing, southern nancy, i don't even stay in the country for the winter! But when i am here, I'm an all seasons man. I can just about still handle it.

Thanks for the replies, gents, good to know I was on the right lines. I'll get a shot of that fuel stuff as swm suggested and take it from there.
Henri, I can't really argue the 'jessie' piece, though I will say in my defence that the main reason for garaging the scoot over winter is I don't have a shed/garage and worry about it being left exposed to hard frost, snow etc. Maybe I'm being too over-protective?
