Hi,
im thinking of buying a 125 PX from a local Vespa/Piaggio dealer. I'm wanting to learn more about the mechanics of a Vespa so therefore I'm thinking of adding a kit to the Vespa. Only problem is, the only mechanical thing I've done on a Vespa is a carb rebuild. I don't really want a rusty project. I'd use the 125 daily until I gathered money for a kit and add over the winter.
Some people may say it's a bad idea or waste of money but, that's what I'm interested in doing. Have to start somewhere.
what are your ideas?

When you say use daily...have a think about the roads its gonna be used on..do you get the chance too thrash it for any length of time? or mostly 2nd/3rd gear racing between lights?..could be a factor in the kit you go for...and as for anyone saying waste of money/bad idea too change/tinker/hopefully improve and personalise your ride too what you like...id tell em nicely too funk right off....works for me...go for it LOON-E

I ride my P2 daily to work and back and the odd weekend out. Normally doing 50-60ish on the roads I go down.

I also have a std px200 which is good to ride, however I also have a classic vespa which is fitted with a kitted px125 motor and it is quicker than my px200 it is probably a bit lower geared but it has loads of torque and revs build very quickly, in the scootering magazine just now there is an advert for a BGM kit which is probably a high end article but they are claiming in excess of 15hp when fitted with a pipe and upjettted carb, that is a huge percentage increase on std motor.
There are plenty of kits to choose from starting with iron barrel ones which are very affordable for bolt on and go! I don't know of many std px 125`s left as most folk have carried out some sort of tuning work, just depends on budget and use.

Are bolt on kits what I think they are? Changing the cylinder and cylinder head, piston?

Yep ..then just rejetting carb and your away (in theory)..the reality can get a bit more convoluted..but there,s half the fun and leaning process, im not so clued up with the latest kits out there but a motto back in the day was always..The faster it goes..the sooner it breaks LOON-E
