Hello I'm trying to get my clutch side bearing in I'm pulling it through the clutch using the nut, my 6sense is telling menim doing it wrong I'm thinking winding the nut us pulling the crank in the bearing but I'm sure there is a little gap between the clutch and the bearing and its damaging the bearing? Do I keep winding the clutch side nut? Thinking of finding a suitable washer and putting it over the bearing between that and the face of the clutch? in 2 mins later found this in my pile of bits, it's a good job I don't work on airoplain engines

I did this job recently but followed the sausage DVD and put bearing in freezer and heated cases with blow lamp then chapped bearing into place using suitable drift and once it is fully home the sound of the hammer on the drift changed, then to double check fit circlip and make sure circlip can rotate in slot easily. I`m sure there will be plenty of help on this site, the folk on this forum are really helpful.

It doesn't look like it's quite far enough in but it's hard to tell for sure. You should have a look at the crank in the crankcase. Viewed from the cylinder end. How much of a gap do you have between the crank and the cases? Does the edge of the crank web fully seal the inlet, where the carb goes. Again have a look through the hole.
I just noticed the threads on the crank...whats happened at the end there? looks like the thread is damaged? or is it just the photo?

as vespaco says , were does conrod sit on the cases , on a px middle of conrod should sit right on join in cases .mid line of join/cases = middle of conrod . an to my eye that crank aint seated fully in the bearing . heat the bearing centre up a tad an try n draw crank through a tad more .in this case a tad =.25mm .ok . looks like the extra drag of seal going on journals stopped it going home . thats just from photos tho, might be wrong .H

*If you're using the clutch to pull the crank through then I think you need to pack out the clutch a bit more . use an old bearing or something if you can. And only pull onto the centre bush of that fitted bearing

If its not seated fully the crank won't turn freely when the casing goes together. Once the casings are bolted together put the clutch on and tighten it fully (really tight, I use a two foot bar on all mine). If you get to that stage with the crank turning ok, then put the barrel on and pressure test it.
