Hi Steve, used a few different, when the frame was sand blasted it got a coat of a red oxide type primer, which seems to stick well, then a high build grey primer on top. I did a lot of localised repairs using Upol acid etch (£10 a can, ouch!) and yellow filler primer.
The acid etch is pretty good stuff, covers well and seems fairly robust, the high build primer I did find chipped easy..

Very nice work, well done fella. I'm interested in the final colour, as it's very similar to the original Golden Ivory colour I've resprayed my '63 GL in. When I've worked out how to do it I'll post my resto pics up soon to compare the shades (mine's in cellulose though). It's amazing what can be done in relatively little time. Good work again

Blimey, seems a long time ago now.. As a P.S. I changed a few details and got it on the road, never rode it more than 20 yards myself before my mates wife fell for it and bought it, it made the 100 mile run to the Isle of Wight in '09, but unfortunatly had a bit of an accident on the island, so spent some more time back in the workshop.. all sorted now!

P.P.S Blimey how time flies, 8 1/2 years ago since my first resto.
Well, the old VBA still looks good but after its crash on Isle of Wight in 2009, and subsequent rebuild and repaint of panel and mudguard it has sat in my mates dining room for 7 years, which is a bit sad really.
Now been sold to another mate of mine and being shipped out to Cyprus in a few weeks to live out a gentle life in the sun :-)
THE END!

Reading back through this thread, Bryno, as it was before my time. Magnificent job, the finished article looks stunning! But I am curious as to why, having put all that time and effort in, you didn't run it in and use it?

Good question! I enjoyed the project itself as it was the first one I'd tackled and good experience, never thought much past that, my mates wife fell for it soon as it was done and it just seemed the right first scooter for her... probably would have been different if I didn't also have others scooters at the time.

Fair enough, mate, sometimes a certain scooter is the perfect fit for a certain person. Did you at least take it a run down the road before you parted with it?
