Hi all,
fitted new P200 engine I purchased from spain after a good strip down and started after 4-5 kicks. since then starts after 2-3 kicks but when I have been riding it for 30 mins or so it then becomes a right bugger to start needing atleast 20-30 kicks before she finally springs into life. it is a 2002 electric start engine which is not connected to the leccy start as mine is non electric, starter motor is still hanging off the side of the engine but not connected electrically. any ideas would be gratefully received.

when ya stop do ya turn off ya fuel tap, as symptoms sounds like over-rich or flooding , i'd start by checking needle valve an float in carb .H

hi H,
I do turn off fuel tap as a rule if stopping for more than say filling up at petrol station. Will get carb checked over this weekend.

just had a 2nd thought on this 1 . could be a air leak developing on a hot engine ,if checking carb also re-torque it down .an i think i'd also pull the barrel shroud an inspect round head/barrel join for oil staining/leaks .an maybe even remove head an check flatness an lapp it an re-assemble with wellseal or high temp/high copper sealant .or at least re-torque it . Does it run ok otherwise? Performance is ok?
If there is nothing wrong with it apart from it is difficult to start when hot, then its too rich. Either a fuel leak, wrong pilot jet or badly set mixture screw.

hi PXguru,
it absolutely flies!! gets to 60 in know time (confirmed by the wife who was following me) and sits there no problem and that was at only about 2/3rds throttle.
Hi h should hope that everything is tightened considering it only came out of the shop last week after full gasket seals etc replacement.

Glad to here you are happy with it Sounds like everything is fine. I assume it has a fairly new spark plug. So, its just the wrong pilot jet or badly adjusted mixture screw. how many turns out is the screw now?

Not sure on the jetting or the mixture screw position as it was set up by the guys in the shop, who I should really take it back too but with work commitments I find it hard to get up to them so if I can go armed with info or even attempt it myself then time will be saved. the spark plug is brand new.

Well took her for a run last night and went along just dandy, that was until I stopped at traffic lights and she cut out. could I get her started? could I hell so push to the side of the road through heavy traffic and kept kicking until she fired into life!! any ideas chaps is it just a case of adjusting the tick over/ but I feel this will not solve the starting issue.

Hate it when that happens. So embarassing! It is most probably the mixture screw (on the back of the carb near the starter motor). If you turn in in until it stops, then out two full turns, then it won't be so wrong.

as its a new build the mechanics probably played safe an set it up to run rich during running in .if he's anygood/anysense that is . as pxguru's suggests check ya mixture screw setting ,an maybe also make a note of which pilot jets in it an that chokes fully closing/going off . H
