someone gave me a bottle of Fuchs fuel system treatment thinking it'd be of use to me. I naturally said thanks but as i'm someone who's not fully mechanically minded, can sombody explain whether i should use this and how? smells more like a cleaning fluid.

Read the bottle first, does it suit two stroke, it will say on the packaging. Anything you put in your fuel will dilute it, this could cause problems in a two stroke. If in doubt, don't use it.

5TH GEAR DID A test recently where it was proved that fuel additives resulted in a 2% LOSS in power for all types. Seems they are b*ll**. Stick with regular petrol it works better. But as the stuff was free, crack on and see if it does work, what can you lose, apart from 2% power.
