I'd like to find some dimensions and other info on stators:
- The diameter across the laminated poles that the windings are mounted on. (It would be slightly less than the rotor inside diameter.) - Cross section size of the poles - The difference between the red and blue type stators.
Reason is for a non-standard application to another make, to see if I can use the stator or parts of it.
Thanks! Jordan

sorry i havent the dimensions to hand ,an all my lectronics are on engines at the moment i think .might have 1 old 1 i can measure ,but its a pk 1 .that makes no difference as laminates n coils are same for px an most pk's with exception of elestart n ape ones ,just base plates are different . not sure what you mean by red/blue types . H Thanks Henri, I hope you find the old one to measure. Actually, you've taught me something already (I'm totally new to Vespas, although I have owned Lambretta, Heinkel & Rabbit scooters in the past) - that the PK & PX stators are the same in size. Regarding the red/blue: I saw some Indian made PX types for sale. It could be they are just painted differently but are the same?

I have a couple of stators kicking around, a brand new shabby one, and an old Piaggio one that I rewired over Christmas (yes another one – send 'em my way chaps......). I think they are pretty much the same, except for the cross-section of the laminates, which I put down to the older one being a bit spread-out over time, with maybe a bit of corrosion/ingress of merde. Anyway here are my dimensions: First in simple terms: 93mm across laminates. LT coil laminates 18X11mm, AC (lighting) laminates 18x15mm – not that simple though:Both are 93mm across the poles. (I don't have a spare flywheel to check against). The LT laminate is 18.2mmWx10.5mmH. It's stated as 18X11mm here: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VESPA-PX-P200E-T5-PK-ELECTRONIC-STATOR-PLATE-LOW-TENSION-COIL-/151671507824?hash=item2350538b70:g:zgkAAOSwPhdVSPw3The AC laminates vary (there's two of each size, and also due to quality of manufacture and age); there are two sizes – ALL 18.2mmW, and: New Stator: big coils are 13.6mmH, small coils are 14.6mmH (the big ones are slightly shallower/less spread). Old Stator: big coils are 15.1mmH, small coils are 15.5mmH (the big ones are slightly shallower/less spread). (You could just say 18x14mm & 18x15mm.)Don't forget the inner dimension of the coil plastic frame is bigger because the outer laminate is bent up, which I haven't measured – say another 0.5-1mm. You'd be much better off getting hold of one to look at, and these variations would make more sense to you. Those coils are here, and if you ask the supplier, they will give you a size – eventually: www.beedspeed.com/vespa-stator-plate-lighting-coil-p-4610.html?osCsid=qdqtqlcv7m8r8uccgdptv6a7f7I've also seen the different colour Indian ones, but don't think it has any relevance to size. That's all I've got – don't quote me; hope it helps.

Thanks sime66, that's just the sort of info I'm after.
Happily, the 93mm diameter and 18x11 pole cross section are the same as the non-Vespa stator I'm working with.
I'm hoping to find an off the shelf CDI charging coil that will fit a 18x11 pole.
Is it that your stator is from a CDI ignition system, and has its CDI charging coil on an 18x11 pole?
The link to the ebay coil shows an LT coil, but the wires look too thick for CDI charging, which have hair-like thin wires.
Thanks again for your helpful info.

I'm hoping to find an off the shelf CDI charging coil that will fit a 18x11 pole. - I reckon you've found it then that first link is the CDI charging coil (LT). I s it that your stator is from a CDI ignition system, and has its CDI charging coil on an 18x11 pole? - Yes and Yes The link to the ebay coil shows an LT coil, but the wires look too thick for CDI charging, which have hair-like thin wires. - That's what PX (up to 2011?) use; it is a very fine wire under the tape - I might be able to find an old one if I haven't chucked it out. Here's a quick link to the type of CDI: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Piaggio-Ducati-Energia-CDI-Unit-Vespa-PX-T5-1977-2011-/301784428219?hash=item4643c0eebb:g:KxkAAOSw9mFWNPKJand you need a pick up like this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vespa-Lambretta-LML-Stator-Electronic-Pick-Up-/331722047324?hash=item4d3c2cbf5c:g:AM8AAOSw7FRWXZKcShop around for the parts; mine are just links I found quickly for the parts, not necessarily suppliers - are you in UK? If you look at the image below, it's a stator being dismantled; the LT coil is at 6 o'clock (green to CDI), and the pick up at 8 o'clock (red to CDI), the other four are the lighting coils (blue), then there's white wire, (Ground to CDI); and black wire, (Ground to wiring loom):

OK - I misled myself by not understanding that LT is actually referring to the CDI capacitor charging coil. Also, the thickish wires visible are connected to much finer wires under the wrapping. I'll get hold of one of those and try it out. It's looking promising - thanks heaps again from Australia.

Thanks
PS: Please count the number of turns of wire. (just kidding)

Update: I bought a Vespa type coil (CDI charging type) of Indian make, and installed it onto a Ducati stator. On bench test (using a friend's very old but useful magneto testing machine), and using another Indian Vespa component - the HT coil/CDI unit, I got sparks. Hooray! I look forward to installing it onto my motorcycle for a proper test. I'd be chuffed if it turns out to be a low cost solution. The proper parts are hideously expensive. Fingers crossed it keeps working.

First ride today on the Ducati, modified using Vespa-India supplied CDI charging coil and ignition coil/CDI circuitry. It works well so far, with moderate revs and loads. Before I go bragging about it too much, some time and miles need to pass but so far it's promising. It's largely thanks to help I got here, so much obliged, scooter chaps!
