Here's my mudguard all painted-up on top - it's got Kurust and Waxoyl underneath (previous page). I'm pleased with it, and there's plenty of time to make sure the paints don't react. I have one whole can of black left over, so maybe I can rub it down a bit before a final coat, but It really is perfectly good enough for my scooter. I'd put a protective laquer on it though, if there is such a thing, just to prevent knocks or chips. The crest isn't fixed; it's just something I picked up 2nd hand for a couple of quid – the same plastic chrome as is on the mudguard on my scooter – I've got my eye on a stainless one if I'm feeling flush when I do this job; as I wasn't intending to put anything new chrome back on as I replace old stuff. The jobs not up to your top-notch painting standards, H; but it's more than good enough for me and my shabby (looking but not shabby running) old scoot – it's rust-free, protected and painted:
Not much else to do with this job for now; just buying some stuff that I don't really need yet, so I'm just going to make sure this paint doesn't do anything nasty, and otherwise forget it all for a while – might still be a Spring job; not decided yet.........
The scooter is going to get a really good Spring clean, wash and polish and spruce up very soon actually – she looks dull, dirty and tired in that film from Saturday. I've been riding all Autumn and Winter, messing about with the engine and not even cleaned it since the Summer. I'm going to take the time to fit the new wheels and tyres, put my new seat and rack on, and do a bit of Spring maintenance too – it isn't Spring yet really, but I think she's been a bit neglected and abused lately. The new seat is for buzzing around in the Summer really; my bent and rusty old chrome rack needs replacing with a stainless steel one for when I want a big rack and long seat, but I've always liked the look of these race seats with a little rack on the back when I haven't got much to carry about. This is a TSR Cafe Racer seat; 2nd-hand of course, with a stainless sprint rack I bolted on it. The seat base is metal anyway, and I've made two stainless plates to make a sandwich to strengthen the back of it too; I reckon it's smart:
I'm pretty much ready for a long season of hooliganising now, and it's only mid-January..............
