Hi, I was quite spontaneous recently and bought an old Vespa. To say I have little knowledge of Vespas is an understatement. I have wanted one for years and after the missus encouraged me to get one I didn't hang about. I cannot even ride it yet (mental). Problem is I am not 100% sure what I have purchased? I'm feeling a little foolish as without my usual checks, I'm hoping I don't get bitten on the behind. The bike is this one www.gumtree.com/p/vespa-motorbikes/vespa-pk125-xl-1988-looking-to-swap-for-van-/1124466910 (I didn't pay that price). It's a nice bike but I'm starting to realise I have bought someones project and If I was gonna change its look and put original parts back on, why did I buy it? It's Rare as in I cannot find any record of it existing. MOTOVESPA,S.A. A-0138 VTA. It's mine now anyway so I'd like to say Hi and hope it doesn't need much work in it's first few months of use. Cheers

Welcome! Looks to be a decent scoot. Little crease behind the front wheel, might be a slightly bent body, but I've seen a lot worse. You'll find plenty of help and advice here, I'm sure someone will chime in on the motovespa side of things, I know Henri here has some experience with them. Enjoy! J.

hi n welcome , weve all done it , its called "buyers remorse" , from looks of it somebodys thrown some money at that scooter ,buying all the go faster goodies for it , if it was a italian pk an you wanted to return to stock that would mean the secondhand prices would pay for stock stuff .but the spanish did things a bit different , they mixed up the models components to make moto-vespas "different/better" ,can make finding identifying the correct "stock" part a tad tricky .buzzsolomoto hold some spanish stock, theres another english firm but cant remember the name right now , beedspeed hold correct electrical partsd ,otherwise its spain ,"recambios-moto-clasicas" or "harrys scooters" barcelona ,are 2 ive found good . other stuff an its sip in germany , what engines in it ,as pk's are very tunable an often "tuned"??, by half-wit mechanics, tho i cant see any sign of sports/race exhaust or body cuts/changes needed for a radical tune ,so guessing it was a "show over GO" scoot .good . youve got a nice rare scoot there , get out n ride it an dont be scared to scratch it ,lots cut there teeth on pk's so your in good company , when ready we'll tell ya how to make it faster than a px ,H

Thanks guys, I'm over the initial shock now. I've been feeling slightly nervous due to the feeling of missing a few steps and jumping straight in. I feel I should of cut my teeth with a modern px but I guess the unknown of something older is exciting. Let's see where this adventure takes me and I hope I still have a sense of humour come winter.
Thanks for the heads up for spares etc. I shall enjoy it first and see if I want to change things when the colder months return.
Any particular maintenance parts I should order now and store away?

set of cables , always a must for the spares stash , an some trunnions (solderless nipples for cables) , 2 stroke oil of course an a 2% mixing jug unless its auto-lube ,some spanish smallies where i believe , an a stiff toothbrush, to clear the dead flys from ya teeth from grinning so hard as ya ride it , thay dont taste nice an put the womenfolk off scooterists .
