Hi all,
i am planning a ride from Gateshead to London in July and was thinking as it will be taking in dual carriageways for the majority of the journey, will it be worth installing a T5 4th gear for the trip?
running a PX125 with DR180 kit and standard gearing.
Cheers

You'd be wanting longer gears for more comortable cruising, do they still do 'up gear' kits for the 125's?

T5 4th is same as PX125 4th = 36T; no change. (some put a T5 4th in a 200 engine)
What tooth clutch cog have you got? – I’ve got a 21tooth, which goes nice with a DR180.
Also, but not worth taking the gearbox apart for, but if you want to fanny about at some stage: my 4th, on what was originally a PX150, is 35T (like a 200), which gives slightly higher gearing and top speed. – The 21 tooth clutch and 35 tooth 4th are good, but probably not worth it for a one off journey.
Do some proper maintenance and checks for the journey; travel light, and wind the old girl up!!

Hi Guys,
well i learn something new each time i come on here, didnt realise the T5 4th was the same but do now.
sime: i tried a 21 tooth clutch that my pal had and it did give me a bit more but didnt really push it as was running in at the time. Went to Berwick rally at the weekend and with the 20 tooth she sat at 55MPH no problem and was brilliant on the inclines, all that whilst having a knackered throttle as i only get about a quarter of a turn and have to force it to get up to half a turn!!! but that is ANOTHER issue i will have to try and suss out. she has just come back from the painters so scooter money is tight at the minute but once i have enough i will be purchasing a new clutch with at least a 21 tooth cog.

Have decided to "borrow" the money for a new clutch from the wife's birthday fund. just need to sort out the throttle issue now which is so stiff and restricted i struggle to get away from junctions/lights etc. The throttle will move a quarter turn and no further unless i really give it a yank then still dont get much more out of it. all new cables have been fitted during the rebuild and have tried it even with the top off but no better, also have to physically move the throttle forward to shut it off which takes time to respond. any ideas on this anybody??

throttle tube sticking in the headset maybe , take of the pulley n withdraw it from headset ,clean it up n headset too ,copper grease n re-insert ,an make sure it spins freely , an if ya painted during re-build ,bet its overspray inside headset where tube runs , ive been caught that way before , H

It could also be an over clamped carb, warping the slide groove.
