I have all ready injured my foot at the start of Jaunary trying to kick start after my rebuild and couldn't cycle or go out running for a month, it has me thinking of what type of shoes i will be wearing this year, i usually wear trainers but fear this is gonna be a problem, bike starts from kick with very little effort but takes a bit from a cold start and the choke is working, ye think this is more down to the time of year or does it always take a bit of effort starting from cold?

Turn your fuel off when your not riding it.she should start on about 3 to 3 kicks from cold with choke first when warm.If you are turning the fuel tap to off its possibly a dodgy tap check if it's letting fuel flow with it off

Hi Doulsy It is probably worth checking the pilot jet is correct, and the mixture screw is set properly, also stick a new spark plug in if you have not already, if you need a hand checking the pilot jet give me a shout, but my old eyes are struggling to read those wee numbers!

My rule of thumb is if it doesn't start on kick 3.. it's broken.
I use my P2 every day and never any different hot or cold, as said, worth going through the basics plug, plug gap, jet clean, check HT lead and cap, maybe a spray of WD40 on the electrics..

In answer to the original question... You ride in trainers? Are you bloody mad? Boots. Always boots. A broken ankle in a spill isn't funny. I wear touring boots, Aldi have some Sunday for £30, my last ones came from there, got worn most days and lasted about three years. Well worth the investment, the solid sole helps with booting the bike

Desert boots won't protect you in a spill, won't last long on a kickstart (DMs don't either!) and aren't warm.
Take the advice of those who've ridden a long way and have ridden for many years, and worry about looking cool (or otherwise) when you arrive at your destination. Plaster and bandages, along with shredded skin and clothes, don't look even slightly smart.

Shop around. There are all sorts of 'cool' looking 'safety' trainers and hi spec boots on the market these days.
