basically dont ,for same money ya can find already imported scoots ya can go see first ,mostly cheap as there not registered ,am guessing ya sons on leper plates an could do with a simple scoot with indicaters to learn on , ive 2 letters for , PK, not as pretty/desirable as earlier smallframes an taxed n mot-ed good condition for well under a grand ,roughly same style as dads px ,an when he's ready an experienced enuff easy/cheaply tunable . seen a mint-ish ets 125 today for 865 , but guys open to offers so 650 wud probably secure ,in hampshire , tho any scoot bought north of birmingham is usually loads cheaper , or if he wants something special ive 2 for sale , H

Don't buy Vietnamese either, better known as "Nammer Viet-Bodge" Horrific examples of Vespa's and lammies coming over the water from there!

Cheers Guys, he is a 19yr old that wants everything now unfortunately that is the new generation. he saw a nice looking scoot on website in India and that is the one he wants. i will do my best to change his mind as the fact is i have control of his savings!!! have looked locally and around 50 -75 miles from home (Gateshead) but there seems to be a lot of OK scoots around for sale but are a bit over priced. He will have to be patient and just watch me riding up and now the street waving too him on my new look PX.

local scoot clubs an forums ,an most shops have a for sale board , but for best prices the tinterweb , gumtree, friday ad n pre-loved , ive found gumtree is where people stick em when a quick sale is wanted =lower price ,friday ad not so cheap an pre loved very variable , same rules apply tho , have the cash ready, check daily n be prepared to move fast ,always view at vendors home, any any doubts/hinkyness walk away there will be others , plus join the facebook sites for types of scoots he likes ,they get offered on there as friend to friend are usually "known" scoots an cheaper/mates rates , or thinkin out the box , show him a picture of a cosa , if he can get past the 80's styling there the 1 of best geared scoots piaggio ever built, they get slagged mostly by people whove never ridden one , i have an there faster, better braked, more stable than a px an just as reliable/abusable/fixable ,an coz loads think there ugly a mot-ed n road ready 1 is half the money of a px , so if it turns out its a passing 19 year old fad,not so much of his savings are going to turn into a rust patch on the back lawn , or youve got a cheap hack for when its to grotty to take ya minty-fresh px out. facebook , cosanauts page , were always lookin for new recruits an any that pop on fleabay or elsewhere get posted on there ,nice/friendly bunch with the minimum of usual vespa/scooter/faecesbook bitchiness/squabbles . tho i have managed to have a "spat" on there with a numpty, tho as my missus says " i'm special ,, special needs" an once lost a fight with the face in the mirror when shaving ,1 bust mirror n a gnarly scar on knuckle , in my defence he really asked for it . Id certainly not buy an import from india that I'd never seen, then expect to ride off safely into the sunset. It will very likely be a restoration job!
Keep looking, the right one will come along soon enough.
Cosa are like marmite. love 'em for their engine parts (my engine is full of 'em) but man they're fugly. Im so shallow!

I have convinced the boy to keep his options open regarding scooter although he did spend the night in the shed when he piped up with " what about this Peugeot scooter Dad!!!" think he has learnt his lesson. a cheap PX will be what he is really after Gaz but like Henry says the price for these has gone up rather than down this winter and we have looked at a couple for around £900 advertised as good condition/runner one of which was a good runner that the owner coudn't even get started, the other had more holes than a swiss cheese!!! The search continues!!

Why has no one suggested an LML 125? A PX in all but name, and cheap enough to crash while he's getting used to it. Reliable and solid too.

yep cheaper than a px for sure , seen em pop up on flea-bay 7-900 all the time , damm tho nik,i was tryin to recruit another cosanaut there , nearly had him convinced , tho really all ya need to do is get em to ride a cosa once an the scoot does the convincing ,i was a instant convert , an gaz 400 is mighty tempting ,if ya werent half a country away i'd be bangin down ya door n pullin ya arm off , H

Hi Gaz if i had the room i would look at a project for sure but the wife seems to think that using the conservatory as a workshop is unreasonable!! should i divorce her??? we are looking at a couple of scoots this weekend around 900 - 1000 so will see what that throws up!! h i showed him the cosa and he quite liked it so that has now been thrown into the mix, i am also now looking for one as an everyday hack. See what you have started, at this rate i think the wife will be divorcing me!!!

Hi h he is giving me back all the bits replaced so make take some time to tart up and either sell on or use on a project if I can't find a semi decent scoot for the boy. Will be widening the search soon as I am getting my old mans van the end of next month so will have a look around Watford and surrounding areas whilst down there picking it up.

You could always couple it with a visit to 2 Tone village well worth a look round and I can highly recommend Al's all day breakfast in the 2 Tone cafe. That's my bit done for the Coventry tourism board.

if round watford way gumtree scooters in london area , ya might get lucky , london scoots can come cheap as theve always got the obligatory "parking scratches"??, on side panels . an theres always somebody wanting a quick sale as london traffics put em off scootering permanently. around april/may i'll have a spanish motovespa 125 super up for grabs , same as a primavera but rarer , tho i will be askin top dollar on it .H

always best to look local , scoots prob known an has history with it ,an less pressure to buy rather than waste petrol money , tho with a van you can go further afield without transport costs going to kill the bargain , scoots in west country /scootland n cumbria/northumberland can be 2-300 cheaper as buyers facter in travel to buy n transport charges ,which can be a £ a mile , so unless ya dads van runs on single malt whiskey you can maybe shave 1-200 off the price by travelling . but locals clubs n shops are good hunting grounds ,an also wanted ads in friday ads/local freebie papers n scoot shops , play the sympathy card , "wanted first scoot for lad to get to work, must be cheap as he's a apprentice " sort of thing .ya might get lucky an find something really treasured an rare, cheap to a good home, old boys giving up scoots ,or widows sellin garage contents , ive seen it happen ,a mate got a gs150 for 500 coz he was stood outside local scoot shop an was friendly to a old lady havin trouble with the door . she was there to sell her husbands old scoot that had been stored for 15 years .wanted scrap value for it an was made up to get 500 an her garage cleared for free . a lot more than the local piaggio robbin git dealer would of given ,he'd probably charged her to take it as a "favour" . hi H, not going to stress too much over the scoot at the minute as i have had to borrow £300 of his savings for my scooter with only minimal interest rate ( cheeky little sod after all i have done for him!!!!) so will keep looking and ask more questions of the owners before going to look at them as most of them would make a 20 year old barn find look brand new!!!
