Hi Vespa Friend. I bought a GL, i restoration it, but the engine has a bad sound. I never ever hear working the engine. It has a new crankshaft, new piston rod, new bearing, like a new piston and ring. Another problem maybe related to, it has not idling. Any idea? please help me

somethings rubbing/catching , check inside ya clutch cover an behind the flywheel ,looking for rubbing signs , get a long screwdriver an place the tip on various bits of engine an cover the other end with hand ,press ya ear on hand an it acts like a stethoscope ,what ya doctor listens to ya heart with , by moving the tip from 1 part of engine to another you can track down where the noise comes from , an i'm hoping the idling is prob just you havent run it long enough to fully warm up an adjusted the carb to get a idle , to track the noise ,dont start it ,take the plug out an spin it by hand ,less chance of any damage occuring then ,an the engine firing doesnt mask any other noise , H

no compression =no noise , that could mean a headgasket leak, but the noise sounded metalic to me ,have had another listen an noticed your ht lead could be rubbin on the flywheel , you need to put the fan cover an barrel shroud on an check the tightness/torque of your head bolts an exhaust clamp ,H

Sounds 'top end' to me, i'd be inclinded to pop the head off and check all is well with piston/barrel/rings.

i think i'd agree , more i think more "metalic" that sound seems , aswell as bryno's suggestions i'd also check the little end bearing , H

If its not the top end/piston..... From the vid id say its internal gearbox somewhere... Maybe a loose cog bouncing around Either kickstart cog, Loose gears Primary drive Clutch basket - does it make noise when clutch is pulled in? Something is loose somewhere! Or the cruxiform is loose!!! /just catching one of the gears that are freely spinning!?

1 of my thoughts was a catching kickstart ,maybe new buffers supplied oversize ,as we all know the high quality of vespa spares , H

the noise has only low rpm. The gearbox is work perfect, every gear is work, clutch is work.

A mate's px200 sounded exactly the same after a heat seize. it ran fine, but after stripping down the top end a small gouge in the bore was found.

Did you take a look at the cylinder / piston yet? Remove the head and look inside. Quick and easy to do.

I had a constant rattling noise on my P2 engine which baffled me until I stripped it for a seal rebuild....the rivets on one side of the cush drive had worn through and one of the outer covering plates was spinning round...
