My clutch cable adjuster has sheared off at the mounting hole( ooer! ) on the bottom of the engine. I can't get a decent adjustment and the scoot wants to go when you've pulled the lever all the way in, at the lights/give way etc.
What's the best solution to this?
Drill out, retap and insert a Lambretta one or use an inline cable adjuster from a bicycle shop?
I've read of people making the bike ones work but is it a long term fix or something you'd have to mess with daily?
Anyone know the drill size to clear the mount on the engine block or the diameter of a Lambretta adjuster? Not sure if there's enough meat on the mount to allow much margin for error.
Thanks

the usual road side/get ya home is a inline one , for a longer lasting one a long motorcycle one that goes right through an has a extra nut on the forward end for adjustment works.it makes adjustment a tad fiddlyer but does work , the adjusters are a m6 thread if memory serves ,so a 6mm drill right through an a couple of passes with a rat-tail round needle file an the adjuster will sit in nicely , other wise you can try n drill the old adjuster out an re-tap for the usual adjuster , odds of getting it right with engine still in frame arent good ,an i only try it on the bench ,H

The only problem with trying to drill the bugger out is that you can't get a normal power drill in straight, maybe a snake/flexi adaptor may work? Not sure.

I have just been through the same it is nearly impossible to drill it out straight and Retap what I did was drill it out bigger then put the adjuster through with a nut the other side Works a treat

Thanks for the replies .
Delboy, did you manage with the engine still in the frame?
Did you use the vespa adjuster or another type?
How "bigger" did you go?

if youre lucky you can use a smaller and shorter drill bit, (TIP - the sharper the better, it will bite easy) about 3mm diameter would be perfect, from the rear, attempt to 'unscrew' the remaining broken adjuster out by SLOWLY 'drilling....hopefully you will find that the drill bit bites into the old broken adjuster and actually unscrews it - (you dont actually drill it out or touch the threads) hey presto..back to normal/good as new.... if its rusted in soak it in penetrating oil first... if you cant physically fit a drill in there try using just the drill bit and do it by hand... OR ....even a small flat headed screw driver would do the same thing... you are attempting to unscrew the remainder without 'kin up the threads so make sure the flat head on screw driver is less than 5mm wide. hope that makes sense!!

Sorry for the late reply. I had a real job drilling out the old thread it went through at a bit of an angle I did remove the exhaust I then tried to tap it but not enough room to turn the tap so I drilled it out To the next size up m8 I think I did use the proper vespa adjuster and put a nut on the back to allow adjustment Hope this helps
