Hi all, my T5 was running great until I took it for a 2 hour journey, It started cutting out completely when I came to a stop at roundabout/traffic etc, I had to pull choke out to start it again even though it had been running for a while, I managed to get it home keeping the revs high at every stop, but the next day it wouldnt start at all, I put a new plug in and it started straight away although after 5 mins on the road it died completely again ! Does the carb need to be taken out and cleaned? Or any other ideas what would cause this?
Thanks
Chris

Yes I think the carb and the fuel supply could do with a check... Cleaning the jets, especially the idle, would be a good start..

also check the tank i can never say it enough the in tank filter clog's and you cant see it has same with the breather. empty your tank then swill it out with a bit of fuel . simple checks first and are normally the cause.you don't need to take your carb out just the top cover off but work down to it cleaning and check wise. tank/ tap/ line in / carb

as rab says above ,an make sure ya tank breather is clear ,as that will give you your probs if blocked , try a run with tank open ,not on a really full tank tho as it will slop out , if scoot dont die its ya breathers blocked , H

Ok guys, removed tank, put some fuel in and swished it about then emptied it, looked as though there was lots off particles in there, went a run to fuel up with fresh fuel, after that it cut out again? This is my 1st Vespa in 20 years, so silly question now, what is and where is the tank breather???

If the tank level is about halfway down, try leaving the tank cap off. No violent turns etc but see if it keeps going. If it does it's probably a vent issue!!!!

If there's a lot of crap floating around in the fuel then cut the pipe and stick an inline filter in the join. I had a similar problem a couple of years back, it cured it. Just remember to clean it every couple of months.

Pull float bowls and check floats themselves for tiny hole/s or any(seen this hsppen few times) or/also above answers

∆∆∆∆∆∆ yes Be sure to check your 'complete' fuel supply not just the tank!!! i.e. including the idle jet and main, the passage ways that feed them and especially the float assembly! If you have another needle and float handy swap them over. Blast jets and passage ways with compressed air. There are some rough checks you can do to the float assembly... please ask if you're not sure.

OK I took tank out and swirled fuel roud it a few times then emptied it, a lot of particles were floating about in the waste fuel when I emptied it out again, took the air filter off and sprayed carb cleaner in then went out for 15 min run, seems ok now now hopefuly!! Cheers guys!

good cheep fix only cost time its amazing how many people don't try clean the tank out before heaping the cash in on other things good to hear its running sweat again.give it a few weeks and do it again just to be sure its all clear.i wouldn't go for an inline filter as its obvious the tank filter is doing its job or it wouldn't be full of crap
