although I havent yet got my scoot, I am collecting stuff ready to put on it..I got two mirror stems with 4 stadium mirrors and mounting clamps.. I put them together but the stems keep "drooping" under the weight of the mirrors no matter how much I tighten the nut.. the D clamp has shallow grooves in it but the surface it is bolted to hasnt..Ive tried spring washers, rubber washers, even made leather washers.. They do hold but I imagine that vibration and bumps in the road would soon cause the stems to drop whilst riding... How do you guys overcome this ?

I'm not one for mirrors myself , but, I would guess you need a front rack for the stems to attach to and possibly 2 clamps per stem to stop the droop?

you need smaller clamps the ones you have are as micky suggests for a front rack which is a lot wider you could compensate using silver tape round the stem but if you look on beddspeed web site they do them for the mirror stems. others may aswell

Its the bracket that holds the stem to the clamp that is slipping.. not the clamp to bar bit

Can't stand the bloody things myself, scooters are slow enough without the contents of the B&Q bathroom department, but thin strips of rubber wound around the stem would be my solution.
Your bike, your choice though.

its the clamp that holds the stem to the actual main clamp... forget crash bars or what I am trying to clamp it to.. this is happening before I clamp it to a scooter...right... here goes!!!.... Imagine you have the clamp in your hand and you have just fixed the stem to it !!!... right ..now ..you know that bit that the stem is clamped to ? well THAT has to fasten to the clamp with a nut and bolt right??? well THAT wont grip ! so the weight of the mirrors makes it droop from whatever position / angle I set it at !! I dont mean that the stem rotates ..thats fine.. but say I set it at 45 degree angle... well it will drop towards 90 degrees cos the thing wont grip the clamp that, eventually I will be bolting onto the rack !!! IMAGINE... your scooter wont fit through your back gate cos the mirrors stick out too much... now imagine pushing them in towards the scoot so that they fit through.. well its THAT joint that you are moving that I cant get to grip !!!

Yes, I get that... Assuming this is the type of clamp you're talking about and that it's the bolt on the right of the picture that's the issue? Assuming I'm not misunderstanding you, the problem is that the stem is too narrow and so the bolt can't pinch up as the clamp is shutting without grasping the stem. That's the place you need the rubber - on the stem where it fits through the clamp. A few winds and the stem will become thick enough for the bolt to fasten up without shutting the clamp properly. If not, then can we have a photo of your clamp please?

Inner tube would be ideal for this BTW

the clamp on the right grips the stem fine.. no problem with the stem BUT the clamp on the right (that holds the stem).. rotates AGAINST the clamp that clamps onto the frame ! if my pic has downloaded ok then clamp A is rotating on clamp B in the direction of the big arrow.. in the pic it has "drooped " to 45 degrees..I want it to stay at 90 degrees.. but it wont grip ! the weight of the mirrors (2 stadiums) pull it down !
