do you mean the stamp number behind the the side panel or the square plate that is riveted on.as long as you have one of the 2 its fine on mot. if you have neither you can buy a plate online and have the details stamped or etched on to it but you do need them

depends on the mot guy ,so long as ive a v5 with numbers on for the computer mine rarely checks the frame numbers ,machine mart sell number stamps ,ya cud always re-stamp the number ,practice on a bit of scrap first n support the thin steel with a block of wood, ive had to do it in the past an have always told any prospective buyer an not had probs,H

The frame number sits behind the panel. The MOT man is no longer allowed to remove bodywork to look for it (according to my MOT man anyway), so no problem. The one on OCO is illegible, it's never been a problem.

The main thing is you have the logbook. So no worries!

On this topic, I might have a problem!
As I changed the colour of My P200E, I sent the log book back to DVLA to change the colour and got it MOT'd whilst the log book was away, the tester asked for the VIN number from the old MOT which I gave him, today I have had a letter from DVLA saying there is a discrepancy with the numbers they have on the V5 and the MOT, and want me to confirm the VIN number from the vehicle which is not on the frame, and I don't know what it should be as I have sent the V5 back?
Is there anyway to find the original VIN number from just the registration No.?

havent ya a older mot ,or some insurances want chassis numbers an have it on policy ,but it might be wrong one , i guess a dvla search might give it up, or what about those phone apps for hpi/right off checks , they'll maybe have a vin number ,an will be from dvla records so will match ,might be worth a 3 quid punt , otherwise you'll have to fess up n tell dvla ya just painted an numbers are illegible an i guess they will want to inspect ,maybe not ,what about when ya bought scoot ,did ya check n note numbers ,or get em on reciept aswell as reg number . are the numbers totally gone or just painted over , H

I bought the scoot in 2006 and never checked the VIN/Engine Numbers against the V5, I did do a HPI on it and obviously it came back OK, so I bought it. I rode it for a couple of months until the tax/mot run out and then I just garaged it. I have never taxed or MOT'd it or even got a notice to SORN it. I sent the log book away to change the colour and never gave it a second thought, when I phoned to book the MOT in the old boy asked if I had the VIN number, I told him I sent the log book off and he suggested to check the old MOT which I did and gave him. Its only six numbers, which the first two are 00, I thought that was a bit odd as I thought that it should have prefixed letters, but it went on his system OK. I have receipts etc. but nothing with the VIN number. when I stripped the paint work back there is no signs that it was ever stamped, so just thought it must of been on a plate which has been lost over the years. I a bit worried now that they will stick it on a Q plate!

pretty much all vesps vins start 00 , as they dont count pre-fixes , an p series have a dot stamped number rear arch offside just before side panel rear pin hole .quite delicate an if blastin or aggresive rubbin back common to be lost , usually thers a vin plate aswell on seat arch with numbers on , its a gamble but still reckon best bet is fess up to dvla n see what happen , strict honesty an ive been surprised before ,or search dvla/hpi check txt's/webs n try ya luck, H

H is right when it comes to dvla or vosa be honest or it may not even get a worst case Q plate but crushed if they catch you telling porkys aswell as the discrepancies.it could be just a simple mot station mistake on last test and they typed in a didgit wrong. try a dvla mot history check

I have also been asked by dvla to provide a paper and pencil rub of my chassis number, i applied for the log book on the 8th of may and after calling them i was asked to do this, strange that mine is also a p200e
