Howdy all,
My PX broke down with the Mrs on the back yesterday, I'm not saying the two are linked mind! Heard a bit of a bang then sound like something rattling in the engine, no power loss or anything but I just pulled over to check it out. Will start okay but there is definitely some sort of rattle and as soon as I put it in gear it stalls altogether. The clutch cable feels fine. Could it be the woodruff key? I don't really know what that does, just recall hearing that they can shear and cause a load of damage internally.
Also, doubt this is related but I have had a long running highly intermittent issue where I sometimes lose power usually around the 60-70KMPH mark. It has literally been happening for years and I can go a few months without it happening at all and then it can happen every day for a couple of weeks and then just disappear for a while. I have started keeping a log of when it happens but I can not find any pattern. It isn't always even at the 60ish mark, can sometime be as low as 40, though usually that would be on a gradient. Best way I can describe it is as a little nip, feels like it would if you were running out of petrol and the power drains so I have to ease off the throttle. I has never actually cut out fully but it is a right pain, especially if you are overtaking when it happens, which has been the case a couple of times. The local scoot mechanic has never got to the bottom of it and he has checked the piston and barrel. When I have had it in the shop he has never been able to reproduce the fault though because it is so intermittent. As it has been particularly bad for the last month I was going to leave it that way and take it in the shop so he can see it happening himself, rather than swap the plug which sometimes fixes for a while but even then there isn't really a pattern. Any ideas? Does it sound related to the other problem?
Ta,
Dan
