Howdo all .Fitting conti tyres on a PX 200 be enough to make it weave at slow speed ? or could it be over inflated / head bearings , or anything else . cheers HOLLY

First things first. Check the wheels... The tyres are on the rims the correct way, and the rims fitted with the deep side to the hubs? That can do it.
Secondly, if you've got tubeless rims, they need a considerably higher pressure than tubed.
Pressure can play a huge amount in the handling, so I'd look into that. Steering bearings shouldn't make it weave unless you've got them over tight and are fighting them.
Any help?

Did you have a weave issue BEFORE you fitted the tyres at all? If not then we can safely say within reason that it is the change of round things that has done this. You really need to answer the question re. Tubed or Tubeless. Then, how much do you weigh? Do you take a pillion passenger etc etc. I run my TUBELESS tyres on SIP rims at around the 24 front, 34 rear. I am about 16st 10lbs. It was trial and error to find the right set-up FOR ME. Your set-up might be totally different. Go play with the settings.

beat me to it nic , i'd agree with the above as under inflated tyres can make scoot squirm at low speeds , or as nic suggested are both rims on right way round as if 1's not that will put tyre out of line an cause weaving . if ya had problem before tyre changes i'd check engine mounts an bolt tightness an shock top mount as either of these can cause handling issues , i'm a bit lighter than kru ,having opted for the "gibbon" body plan , an run conti's at 22-24 front an 30 rear , H

At 15 4 (and falling!) I run 22 front, 40 back at the moment on tubeless. It's still not spot on, but getting closer.

There's a reason why no manufacturer of two wheeled vehicles, other than a single scooter manufacturer and its clones, racing cars, production cars etc all use tubeless... Can you guess what it is, considering that they're more expensive to make?

Don't forget that no two makes of tyres have the exact same profiles.......... I went from S1s to Conti Navigators and nearly came off on my first big corner as the Conti's wanted to turn in a lot quicker. All tyres have different characteristics so need a little time getting used to. Love my twists.

i think i got it somewhere on this site that you should put tubes in so the tyre goes down slower if that is not the case ill take my tubes back out asap and i have inflated a tubeless tyre with a tube in it with a quick fix sealant and it was messy and lasted around 2 miles lol. ill try find the post were i saw it so it can be condemned and hope fully removed

same as joey, I have 2 p200's one with S1 s the other with conti navigators, when I first fitted the conti,s I thought something was wrong going in to a bend, they seem to pull you in, you get used to them after a while.

It sounds like one of those things that is common sense. The problem is, common sense regularly goes off in a totally different direction to the truth.

nic first ,15,4 an falling , on ya arse at a drunken rally most weekends , tubeless go down slower on puncture givin more time to react, tubed can rip/blow out causing instant deflation an falling over even when sober ,see above comment. an the different profiles is what gives different feels cornering ,s1/s83 are flatter so you never really get on the edge til youve gone too far .conti's etc are rounder thats why you get better grip cornering as theres more contact area at lean/angles,tho at low speed there more prone to "drop in" where you go over the edge an the scoot/bike trys to lay flat . an gaz a set of smooth levers/rim protecters an a hair dryer an tyres go on easy on to sip rims .warm the rubber for 10 mins atleast an they soften nicely , blag sum tyre soap from nearest tyre place or use washing up liquid .you can always watch the vid on sip website ,guy does it too quick to learn anything but his accent gives a laugh anyway.dont be tempted to get biggest levers they just make damaging the rim easier ,short 5-6" will be sufficent. i use washing up liquid mixed with a little water and tyre levers. thin rim always just pops off deep rim is always a swear word to get off my big rubber mallet helps .it doesn't matter if i nacker the tyre as its coming off for new but it normally doesn't damage it

Rab.
DO NOT USE washing up liquid on SIP rims!!! The corrosion this can cause gave me dreadful rim issues when a local scooter mech fitted the tyre. Tyre was often going down. All due to corrosion created by stuff made to wash dishes & cut through burnt on grease!!!!!!!

I bought a cheap tool to check tyre pressure for a couple of quid off Amazon. Used it on Monday. Couldn't get a proper reading meanwhile the hissing indicated it was rapidly deflating the from tyre. Wobbled and weaved to the nearest petrol station about a Mile away. Front tyre was 7......binned the tool.

Very true Holly, I've ridden as far as North Germany, and lesser journeys to this side of Europe and Lands End - John o'Groats. They're quite capable machines if you plan ahead. 800 miles each way at an average of 45 is a long journey though

Right . i bought the scooter a couple of weeks ago , on spec really cos knew nothing about em . seemed all right , sounded all right , so it must be all right , NO . well i had a 175 miles to find out yesterday . started out at 2,00pmm from stowmarket in suffolk . got to portsmouth at 9.00 pm . seven hours . three gallons of fuel . the first 75 miles was a pleasure , the next one hundred was hard work . the good news was the scoot ran perfectly . started slowly at 40 to 45 mph and then down the A27 it was running dead on the spanny at 60 mph . for the last twenty miles . does sound nice at that speed with the revolver expansion pipe howling away . the weave seems to be getting less . still there though HOLLY

Gonna try some different tyre pressures . the surface area does seem rather small on the tyres . like balancing on a knife edge . the cornering was fine . stuck like glue to a line on the faster roundabouts . HOLLY PS good luck to all going home tuesday .
