Hi all,
Have just brought a Mk1 PX vespa have taken out for 100+ mile's thought I would check engine out and found that the flywheel is pretty trashed.
There are at'least 4 fins that have broken off and 2 that have cracked, Silly question would this affect the timing of the engine and drastically affect the performance as I don't want to start buying new parts (APART FROM THE FLYWHEEL) if the main problem is the above!!!!
Any comment's appreciated

Change the flywheel Missing fins should not really affect the timing. Your crank should be fine Hopefully its a straight swap with nothing else needing doing.

missing fins is usually a sign of removal without proper tool , as vespaco said wont affect timing but will lessen the fans cooling effect ,your in pompey ,my spider senses tell me theres a trip to allstyles in your future , or beedspeed do ok flywheels , i use lml genuine staters n flywheels as there identical to px electronics ,just need connecters changing if yours is a plug rather than individual spades ,an about half the price . My flywheel is missing a couple of fins (emergency repair about seven or eight years ago) and is been fine.
Does anyone know (and have photos of) what a proper 200 flywheel looks like?

I always look for the curved fins when trying to indentify a 200 flywheel Im not sure how relevant that is anymore on newer models Nowadays i see people advertising flywheels for 125,150 n 200 all with straight fins?! My fav is the electric start flywheel with the large cog removed: - 300grms lighter You should also take into conCideRation how well it is balanced. And what it is doung to your crank n bearings.

That's why I'm asking... Can't remember if it's curved or straight fins, thanks.

ive never found out ,curved/straight, think its prob like points flywheels having magnets to trigger lectronic sparks, piaggio using "common parts" an saving lira , why there the longest/successful scoot maker. an if goin lectric less/light flywheel , best to mask of the inside magnets really well, most scoot shops de-magnetise re-magnetize to be sure theres no filings stuck afterwards ,to short out the stater later, H

You can do the gear yourself. Two minutes with a dremmel and a lot of cleaning up.

Its also possible to pry off the gear. Although the soft ali doesn't give you much to lever off if youre using a screwdriver or bar and it would easily break or crack the perimeter of the flywheel. A large gear/bearing extractor would work better Dremmel sounds much easier 'though, albeit a little messier.
