The only problem with a mazz crank is that you might get one that is absolutely bulletproof, or you may get an absolutely poo one that snaps after 150 miles (as happened to me.) There's no happy medium, it'll either be a good one or a sh1t one. Personally I'd never risk it again....... on some forums they're known as mazzochocolate!

hadnt heard the "mazzchocalate" stuff, good intel to have, whats wrong with the crank ya got anyway ,as re-building it might work out cheaper an atleast you'll be sure it will fit. from ya post ,after 20 years in a garden you'll def find surface rust on it when splitting cases ,so long as it isnt on the little end bearing surface or sealing block on crank web it can be polished off .with extreme care it dont get into big end rollers, prob for less than a new crank you could have a new conrod an big/little end bearings,an a scoot shop/machine shop press up n true the crank. or if its a tuning project =offset crankpin an long stroke conrod =very fast scoot, sorry jus dreaming of "one-days" , i think most shops with speed in the name offer a crank building service ,phone around ,ya might save sum cash. thanks for the help, i should have mentioned my barrel and crank was full of water, i got it turning but i have been told to replace crank, barrel and piston and i guess other bearings and seals, when i unscrewed the oil bolt there was very little oil came out but no water, i was just gonna buy a replacement engine but i would prefer to have the original engine and frame, what would you lot do?

I've had a mazz crank been bulletproof for 5 years, loved it, but then I had one that snapped clean on clutch side, had massive argument with Rob Kerr of VE (but that's a different story,) and even had confirmation from a metalurgist (REME,) that it was due to metal fatigue. It lasted just over 100 miles! All I'm saying is that it's luck of the draw as to what day it was made on
