Hi, I was wondering if anyone uses a tracking app on their mobile for tracking and sharing their ride outs. Any suggestions on a good one would be great. Thanks

On Android I use My Tracks: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.maps.mytracks&hl=enI've tried lots of different ones, for cycling and scootering, and this is the most reliable, and you can upload and share rides easily. It doesn't give a load of data, except max and average speed, elevation, distance etc., but It's my favourite. It makes a map, and an animation on Google Earth. I've got to go out now, but I'll upload an example of a ride later on.

i knew it,your one of "old nicks" little minions , is it true does he ride a tricked/kitted out lammie sx200 , that never breaks down , or is that "god" . an sat nav speeds are only accurate on flat straight roads ,they dont allow for elevation changes an measure distance "as the crow flies" ,point to point which averages out the bends . an like helmet cams if declared to ya insurance ,can be used in evidence of your riding when a claim is made ,an if its the day you forgot to turn it on insewerants will reckon ya did it on purpose an it will count against your claim. maybe i'm paranoid ,but they can still be out to get me ,an always turn off gps stuff on new phones/laptops/satnavs , dont want anybody tracking me to my secret lair/batcave/hollowed out volcano . an there are tracking security devices to secret around cars ,dont know where ya could hide 1 on a scoot where it could send its signal if activated ,inside the headset or seat i guess. bout a 100-150 quid i think , H

This isn't Satnav, or GPS Speedo; just a little phone app - more of a toy really for sharing journeys. (With your mates in their sheds?) It's actually the one I originally used for keeping my cycling data, but is better than the biking or motoring ones I've tried out, which get too technical, and crap-out 'cos they're too complicated. This isn't for security, I do quite like the idea of the hidden GPS trackers though, for security, but I've never looked into it. I'm not at liberty to divulge what The Guvnor is currently riding. (A Lammie that doesn't break down? - sorcery!!)

....an sat nav speeds are only accurate on flat straight roads ,they dont allow for elevation changes an measure distance "as the crow flies" ,point to point which averages out the bends . I think that only applied to very early GPS devices, most now incorporate elevation and can 'see' sufficient satellites to give very accurate speeds

I'm fairly sure GPS is the most accurate speedo method available to most of us, but it is Devilment and Magickery to some of the Village Elders................... (I do also use GPS Speedo and Satnav apps, but haggis just wanted a tracker for sharing routes) When I start the speedo app, it counts the satellites as it finds them - it's using 7 satellites at present.

Sat nav has supported elevation and inline allowance for at least seven years.
Drive a lorry for a few years and you find out what all your toys do when you're busy trundling up and down at a constant (calibrated) 56mph.... My old Mio was constant in agreeing with the speedo on the truck, whether I was in Blackburn, at the top of the Pennines, or running along the A55 North Wales Coast road, and that was only a cheap one.

village elders ,you must have me confused with the twonks who haunt the bus stop ,even tho the buses stopped 12 years ago, i'm a qualified "village idiot" which in my village has a lot of competition for the position ,but am confident of re-election next april 1st , still dont like satnav tho, prob coz i worked with a guy who use to turn it on an then go a different route ,just so he could argue with it ,made me look sane/normal. bit off the thread ,but its got me wondering ,my car has a speedo needle that wavers around so much makes a vespa 1 look steady/good , mot guy complains its not accurate enuff for braking test an threatens to fail me , wonder if a gps 1 on the dash would keep him happy/be legal , H

GPS won't register at all during a brake test on rollers - is that what you meant? My MOT chap seems to be interested in dashboard stuff not working - whether or not there's a working alternative.

I found i already had this loaded on my phone so tried this out last night on my ride home and this morning coming back a different route. Quite a clever little bit of kit.

I've been using it about 18 months; I rate it pretty high for a simple, free app. Have you uploaded anything yet?

Henri, you should be able to claim that it's a more accurate speed reading device, it's worth a go.
As long as the odometer is still working, I don't see there being a problem

yep my thoughts aswell ,maybe not the 14quid cheaper halfords push-bike 1 tho, an sime my 1966 open top british sports car doesnt do rollers , its too weedy/there to powerful , but mot guy loads a box on passenger seat an drives round block an jams the anchors on at 30mph ,hence the need for a accurate speedo, so the gizmo/demon inside gets a "true reading" , ive tried explaining my method of finding 30 ,ya slow down til it starts to hiccup at tickover in 4th ,gets me past the cameras/police cash machines ,but it seems ive got til october to get it sorted or fail, well thats what he said last oct anyway , H

I’m only a two-wheel man these days Henri (bike & scoot - the scooter was meant to be an economy, but hasn’t been cheap this year). Haven’t MOT’d a car in this country for years. MOT chappy did my scoot brakes on rollers last year, don’t know what KtM will do – it’s booked for 12th August; have sorted my stuff to suit his previous comments though, so should be OK. Love your description of reaching 30; only a fool wouldn’t be satisfied with that perfectly reasonable method!

In my works van, i set the cruise control to , say, 60mph My analogue needle would read 58mph And my sat nav would read 61/62mph !?!?
I set my sip speedo conservatively but also by using the speed aware cameras
Thankfully, those pointy cash machines people hold up on the side of the road have yet to cause me any problems either.

How does setting the SIP speedo work, vespasco? What warning does it give?
