Has anyone any experience of fitting alternative engines in a Vespa.
Now I know it's wrong but just wondering, could by an old Knack. er and you know, make it go a bit special.

Hard to do, but not impossible. You need a complete subframe making, and then essentially skin it with the Vespa frame.

I'll just get mine running well, loose weight and admire the scenery.

you have to love spanner work to own a scooter lets face it its not yours and you dont know it untill its broke a few times. the wife complains at the amount of time i spend in the shed sometimes but that is getting less and less as my baby is almost as i want it . but as you can see below its worth it

Rab, Nice work there but (there's always a but) my pet hate for the 'rectangular' mirrors and round ones mix. Just me, but hey I can have an opinion eh?

Post by rab on Apr 17, 2014 22:11:21 GMT
i have 4 round ones sat waiting so when i get bored the rectangel ones will be coming off i wanted another row. but on the 24 inch stems i cant get it out of the garden without a spanner or re shaping the new fence i built you will notice the wasp decals never made it on either

30 years and you can't be arsed passing your test?
Pass it once, save the CBT money every two years and cheaper insurance. Well worth the hassle... And you don't have to look like a nooB

i might do it at some point but im quite happy at 125 speeds for what i actualy use a bike or scooter for and id rather buzz round A roads than a motorway so i dont see the need. lads at theory centre tell me what i already know i would breaze my test. i can get on any size bike and handle it like ive always riden it. i refuse to waste my money on theory b*ll** ive held a full uk car licence since i was 17 ive been either a wagon driver or van driver since i was 20 why should i have to pay to do a theory test with 30 years of road experiance under my belt. i totaly understand a new driver or rider having to do it but for me to have to do it they just want to take my money because they can and its wrong. i should have taken my bike test years ago when you just went out for a ride and if you did not run over the instructer on your emergeny stop you passed

I didn't think you neeed to do the theory test if you held a car licence since prior to (I think) 96? I know I didn't when I passed mine as I'd had a car licence since 85.

I'd have loved to have seen that. Glad I passed mine when I did, I think I could still pass it now, but I'd not want to have to!

Rab, seeing as you're on L plates I presume you have the new Malossi 125???

Post by rab on Apr 19, 2014 19:31:10 GMT
no its a 166 but its been de tuned to below the legal bhp for a 125 on L plates to take it 2 bhp below the legal 125 limit as you can see in my other posts it has been de tuned/restricted with a certificate to prove it. if i pass a part one i can get it re tuned and bin the certificate. and yes the insuranse know just incase that one pops up aswell lol so mr police officer can come and stick his rod down my back box and its legal oooo errrrrrrrrr

|
Post by rab on Apr 19, 2014 19:48:12 GMT
100% fella you can buy a 1000 cc and have it restricted as long as the restriction is in place when a road side police test is done and you have the certifcate to prove its been done and were its legal. and you dont remove the restriction at any time of course as you never know if or when you may get pulled summer season is upon us and any bike with an engine is a target for the full season always has been always will be so i always stay legal nothing worse than walking home helmet in hand a scooter going to the crusher and a fine just arnt worth it L plate bike must not be above 14.7 bhp mines at 13.2

Post by rab on Apr 19, 2014 20:08:55 GMT
restricters are dodgy ground but perfectly legal if done correctly and not tamperd with and you inform the insurance of course otherwise it would be void . it wont matter soon anyway after niks 30 year comment tuesday im booking the stupid theory and doing my part one 30 years dont seem like a lot untill you read it and realise thanks nik lol

Yup, on a CBT it's still only a 125. Anything else and you'll get shafted if caught.
Emphasis on the 'if'... I had an SX225 on L's and never got busted despite getting pulled for various misdemeanors (including speeding) on a regular basis.

after nik and a few others eased my mis givings on the noise the molossi makes im learning to live with it fast and trust it more. im actualy looking forward to getting it re tuned and off the L plates now and see what it can actualy do its impresive now but think if the timing was advanced to were its suposed to be for the kit it may seaze or blow up on me . ive spent an hour today making a loom so i can get the spotlights and halos working golf cart battery is in the glove box and i even fitted an alarm just the relay fuse and switches to put on tomorow and light up time
|
|
|
Post by rab on Apr 19, 2014 20:49:31 GMT
i built the relay from omron parts the reps at work gave me i just had to buy 2 switches the alarm is a simple 2 wire hawk cyclone shock sensor alarm with remote from ebay cost £15 new the golf trolly battery idea came from kru and i just use a trickle charger to keep the battery charged over night main wireing from the lights is done it just needs passing through the horn cover grills so i dont need to make any hole in the cover and connecting up but ill get a few how to pics and run through writen up

Oh, and to get back to the original question....
I stuck a 150 Super engine into a small frame, does that count? It was a particularly stupid idea.

A mate built this Rotax engined smallframe, I'm pretty sure that came out of a kart. It's mental as hell... But then he also convinced a Lambretta TS1 kit to go on a Vespa T5 engine because someone told him it couldn't be done. Yes, he used to build racing machines - cars, not scooters - for a living. Oh, and this is me showing how NOT to ride the guys scootercrosser... It felt a lot faster to me Ooops at the end

I'm impressed Nik that you put up your scooter cross vid. I assume you didn't want to get your clean jeans filthy? Lot more difficult than it looks I expect. Glad to see he'd fitted a nice whip aerial with excellent tail attached!!!! Any idea what sort of figures the TS1/T5 made on the rollers? Nice sound on pipe!!! This is that red Vespa 50 special. Only one I know of making.......................................................78bhp!!!!! Fast Vespa site
