She’s all back together, and I’ve had a quick run, I’m very pleased. Here is a slideshow for those that like that sort of thing: s1290.photobucket.com/user/sime6954/slideshow/Engine%20ReinstallationI have a slight metallic/whining noise that needs investigation, but she started about 5th kick, dropped into gear lovely, pulled away lovely, and stopped with the new back back brake – also lovely. Deeper sound on this exhaust. There are checks and tweaks to do tomorrow, but I thought I’d get my hands clean by giving her a wash before my bacon butty. Jobs a good-un, thanks for advice etc. etc….. (If this noise is still bothering me tomorrow I’ll record it).

Cool, re the noise first thing I'd check is the flywheel making contact with the cover, pop it off and you'll see marks

First-kick and away this morning. The tinny sound was either the flywheel cover or the exhaust spring; I gave them both a bend/tweak this morning and the noise is gone. The scooter feels really good to ride – sort of meatier? I’d say it gets to 80kmh quicker, but is then about the same, maybe lasts a bit longer before leveling too, which matches the power curves in Scootering exhaust comparison last year. (The green bump). I have new SR2 exhaust, and upjetted from 118 to 120 main, I haven’t touched the mix or idle from how I had it before. I won’t have time to plug chop this morning. I’ve done a little film of tickover, throttle response and engine settling again. I’m hoping for suggestions; I know these can be good for telling the mix, but I don’t really know what’s good and what needs tweaking. There is a slight dip before picking up (which I compensate for automatically when riding – I’m told that’s more the DR kit), and maybe there’s a bit of a lag settling again? – Any comments? Cheers Henri, like several other jobs I’ve tackled for the first time with help on this forum, it seems far simpler once you’ve actually done it. I’m well pleased to be confident about hoiking the engine out again if I need to. Thanks very much indeed to everyone for the advice.
