Eh ?

Had bovva with mine so I thought I’d post this to help others . All working / flashing except off side rear .
1st check - bulb - ok 2 - switch wires - ok 3 - earths - looked ok but cleaned spring on panel and catch on chassis with wet n dry just in case - ok 4 - cleaned socket on chassis at front where pin on panel fits - ok 5 - checked continuity with meter on panel between bulb fitting and pin on front of panel - domed connection on pin was worn down (could av put on a blob of solder but replaced ) - ok 6 - start scoot and with switch turned to right ! check for live with meter at socket - ok 7 - took off indi unit and cleand panel to bare metal round the holes and replaiced old bolts for new - ok 8 - while I was there , I made a small (4” ish ) length of wire with ring terminals on to connect both bolts inside the unit and through the panel to make sure of a good earth . 9 - put panel back on , start scoot and prey ! 10 -“ F “ me it works !!!! Happy dance round shed !!!
Hope this helps someone cos “elecktrickery “ not my thing and this post took nearly as long to type as fixing me flashers !

Hi, not sure if I’m posting correctly. New to scootering. I have a 1984 Vespa PX125. Rear indicators have stopped working. I have checked bulbs and they’re fine. Any suggestions?

Remove switch at handlebars and check if wires have disconnected

Have tried indicator switch on handlebar and all wires and solder seem good. Also checked both sockets where sides attach and they seem clean. The scooter was reconditioned and I only have 30-40km up on it. I think the other suggestions could be beyond my expertise. I’ll try again. Thanks for your help though.

Wexbuster , dunno how competent you are so appologies if you know all the following ! First get yourself a multimeter ! A cheapo from ebay will do , there not as complicated as they look and can save you a lot of grief when trying to sort electrical problems . As nik suggests in his post your problem could be a broken wire between the relay ( small box like unit prob red or green behind battery) Remove the three connections and as nik sez using the meter probes , (one at the switch the other at connector end) , check for continuity (broken wire) .This can be done when the scoot isn’t running ! If all is good follow the simple steps one by one as I did in my earlier post eliminating each possible cause of your problem . Good luck ! Cheers .

Hello All, looking for urgent advice, 1983 Electric start, PX200E MOT fail on lights dimming (flashing in time with indicators) when the indicator (either direction) are on they flash but so do the head and tail lights, on their own the lights work and the indicators work but when they are on together the lighting circuit pulses with the indicators. Suspected a bad earth somewhere cleaned all the earths at the indicators. Has this ever happened to any one else? Hopefully tonight I might get the time to clean the earths under the battery box :-(

Thanks sbwnik for taking the time to write such a good post. I didn't think I had a chance but I managed to fix my rear nearside indicator not flashing problem. My problem turned out to be the very last connection to the bulb housing, it was visibly corroded, just pulled it off and cleaned it up, bit of WD40 and sandpaper. The bit that gave me the confidence to have a go at this was knowing the panel connectors at the front is where the positive comes from. Put a multimeter in the hole and the voltage pulsed when the indicators should.. So then I knew all is OK apart from the panel wiring or earth

I could do with a bit of advice please. After rebuilding my 125 It's been running great except for a problem with the indicators. They all work but the rear o/s has started blowing bulbs. When it happens the front o/s still works normally but the speedo indicator lamp doesn't flash. The rear indicators have an additional earth strap as the springs weren't earthing sufficiently well. I suspect a short maybe in the indicator lamp holder itself as they are the original ones from 2012 and they are a bit worse for wear. I have a meter and presume I check for continuity between the centre pin and the earth but please correct me if I am wrong. I was going to fit new indicators at some point but maybe sooner rather than later.

Kev, that's what I would try. Could also be bulb connections corroded as before or the same connections may be loose?
Have a quick look for loose/trapped wires at the back of the indicator switch too?
Good luck.

I'll have to go through the indicator and earth strap cleaning and tightening everything as I took the side panel off and back on and now the indicator is working again.

That sounds like a plan, at least it's working now. Oh the joy of classic scooter ownership. 😉.
