Hi i have a massive oil leak on my PX125. i have started the bike and it ran first time any suggestions where this could be leaking from as i assume the engine would have siezed pretty much straight away if it was 2 stroke as there is still oil in the mixer tank but a significant amount of oil on the floor, i then assume this must be coming from somewhere else. i did notice last year that after riding the bike the leak would start around about an hour after stopping?? that link is a bit dead..
firstly, is it 2 stroke or gear box oil?
where abouts are you seeing it come from: down the back of the engine? (usually fuel/oil mix from carb) below the fuel tank? (2 stroke, direct from the oil tank) under the engine? (gear oil from casings gasket/clutch breather or cover seal)

Hi Bryno,
I presume it may be gear box oil as the engine started up first time after about 4 months in storage and it appears to be coming directly under the engine. the storage it has been in is unfortunately not moisture free could this have caused any permanent damage if it is gearbox oil?

Lay a newspaper under the scooter. this will give you a better idea where its coming from. Is it on the floor boards, could be sight glass seal damaged, check your breather bolt on clutch has not vibrated off. drain the engine oil into a measured jug and see how much is there, should be 250ml or there a bouts. Cheers Gary i will drain whats left if any and have a good look underneath to see if i can pinpoint the leak. the only oil visible is under the bike there is none on any other parts also i can't smell any fuel so hopefully that is a good sign? Mark

Are you on a sidestand by any chance?

Also, if you check the colour of the leaking oil? My red trace a couple of years back was obviously my semi synthetic two stroke oil. If you have a dark colour it'll be gearbox oil etc

Hi Nik, not on a side stand as was advised that this is not good for the chassis etc.
hi Kru, oil is defo dark colour and is all over the floor.

Nothing wrong with a sidestand, mines been on about eight years and the chassis is still straight. It's sitting on the bike when it's on the stand that does damage, look at any scooter with a centre stand that the owner sits on and you'll see a gentle bow (or bent stand legs on older ones) in the chassis.

A couple of years ago I had a small oil leak down the thread of a sloppy fitting drain plug . bit of thread sealer cured it

Hi all,
it is definitely gear oil filled up and out it came. cant yet see where from as too dark but once out in the light hopefully I can find where it is leaking from.

Ok, does it come out only when the scoot is running? that will narrow it down.
If so, then it is gasket between the casings, or the drain plug seal.
If it only comes out when running usual causes are the 2 above, plus:
- Filler plug seal
- O ring on clutch cover
- Clutch cover seal vent, if it comes out there that's usually a sign of blown clutch side oil seal, or just too much oil
- Rear hub oil seal

hi All,
have cured the leak on the engine it appeared to be a dodgy seal on the drain plug which was also a tad loose. however, this has not stopped oil from p*****g out all over the floor as it now seems that it is 2 stroke oil as my oil bottle which was almost full 2 weeks ago is now empty!!! as suggestions on where to check first on the system for the leak? all suggestions welcomed.

If the 2 stoke oil is dripping out the bottom of the frame. The oil tank union may have come loose under the petrol tank.

The most common place for a 2-stroke leak is the sight glass - I've had three go one me. If you've had the tank out, then it's very easy to put it back at an angle, causing the sight to come up against the frame. In time it will fracture it. They're a ten bob part though, and a half hour job to replace (tank out time...)
