Anybody know (or recommend ) if there is meant to be a 1mm gap between collar? The crankshaft I have taken off appears to have no such gap. Thought I'd get you boys views on the matter. Cheers in advance for any input. ;0)

Yes, there should be, although I've seen enough built without to know it's not a problem.

The 1mm gap is for you to be able to use the factory tool to remove the inner race at a later stage........ as most races are nowadays ground off by drunkards in a shed it isn't really that important as the whole bearing is still supported on the race even if it's smacked fully home.

You could make a 1mm wedge up from a washer...
But like Joey said...mmm, angle grinders....

I stick a steel rule against the web before tapping the collar down, never actually seen it said in the manuals that there should be a gap (only on lammie cranks), but it certainly makes it easier getting the sleeve off later if you ever need to..
