Hi all - got a slight cutting out problem. Scooter is 150 Super, but has LML Star engine....which as I'm led to believe is the same as PX150? Anyway, it was starting nicely, but after around a couple of miles it just dies, not in a fuel starvation way though (i've exhausted that theory). There was a decent spark when I put a new plug in, so I ran it, but the same thing happened, so it was another push home for me as I couldnt get it started again. Thought it might have been happening due to it getting hot and would start again when cold, but no joy there. No spark. Any theories much appreciated. Cheers - Jase

Just out of interest, is the inside of the flywheel meant to have paint on the inside? Attachments:

the flywheel looks normal to me. No spark will probably be your cdi box or pick up on the stator.

Check that the wires between the stator and CDI are solid. Sometimes the copper breaks inside the insulation

Can you post a pic of the wiring from the stator to CDI?
I'd go with CDI or pick up failure first though, this is why I keep spares of EVERYTHING, it's easier to do component swaps than to trace intermittent faults IMHO

That don't look like any PX CDI I hope that blue wire isn't the HT lead!

Blue lead does go to the coil yes.

With this old set up it could be anything If you have a multimeter check there is a decent voltage pulse on the blue wire when you kick it over. My money is now on the coil!

Dunno, I'm not mechanically minded like you lot!..... It just comes off the 12v conversion thingy 😊

Rhetorical question, it's obviously the CDI.
I'd try a normal PX Ducati type on it, see if that'll work or not (I've no idea, please report back!)

Personally I'd get rid of the Indian electrics and swap for proper Vespa stator and CDI. The extra box next to the regulator is a pain for breaking down.

It does it again and I shall do just that. I couldn't get one in Adelaide so a bloke put me onto a company in Sydney. He emailed me saying yeah got the part in stock. Total price $130 AUS. Got one from Beedspeed for $34 delivered. Go figure....

How much for beer, petrol and ciggies? Do you pay tax on those food prices?

How much for beer, petrol and ciggies? Do you pay tax on those food prices? Well diesel is $1.53 ish (£1)a litre, fags around $18 (£12) and beer,I don't drink in pubs but a case of say Heineken about $50 (£32) Lovely place to live, but f*** it's expensive!

Diesel just (or only) one UK pound a litre? Luxury!!! Just paid 1.41 a litre in London so that's approx 2.16 Australian dollars. You've got it too cheap over there you know.

I will then. Gasoline are a pile of sh*te and well known for over-charging, shoddy workmanship and generally being fly. No scooterist I know will go near them.
Once had a warped rear hub swapped by them and picked the scoot up afterwards in the rain. Going down hill put my rear brake on at low speed and was sliding all over the place. Took it straight back and had an argument with their mechanic who said there was nowt up. Asked him to ride it in front of me and use the brake then. As he was skidding and barely managing to stay upright he reluctantly said he will take a look.
PS On the cost of living thing, is offset by better wages though. No good for tourists mind!

Got the new cdi unit just before Christmas.... Lovely, I thought, soon be up and running again. Nothing happened. Right, that's it I thought. So I ordered new coil and ht lead and a new cap. New stator too. They arrive yesterday. Great. Straight into it. New coil,ht etc on. No joy. So I put the new stator on. Had to change the connectors ( heaven forbid it be too straightforward ) So that done... Now we're getting somewhere me thinks.......hang on.....what's this? The wire going from the cdi - coil has snapped. Didn't see it as it was a break halfway up. Got a couple of working spare parts now I suppose! Bloody scooter!

ALWAYS worth checking connections and continuity with anything electrical. Cheap multi meter with a 'buzzer' has saved me many hours of grief. Just used one today in fact to check an issue with my Theremin. Sorted & repaired & couldn't have done it without a multimeter. Theremin? Look it up; lol. Here's to you getting lots for trouble free riding in 2013 then. ;D

Theremin?
Are you Bill Bailey? He's the only person I've ever seen 'use' one of those.... (Don't want to give the game away by leaving a note as to what it is...!)
