I'm taking the starter motor off my PX200e and would like to fit some heated grips or grip heaters they use 3-4 amps per hr does anybody know if the px electrical system is sufficient to cope with this?

In your dreams! I ran a set of these on a Honda VTR Firestorm 1000cc and the electrical load they take is considerable. The PX200E generator will not cope as std with any real additional loads. I was advised on this very forum not to fit a 10watt rear light (as opposed to the std 5w one) for fear of overloading. Perhaps a seperate 12volt 17AmpHr battery fitted in the glove box and charged up remotely would potentially work as these heated grips do not work well without the amperage behind the voltage. I know as fitted a set to a Suzuki GSX600 and they didn't get that warm as the generator on that was marginal. Better to get a pair of nice silk undergloves and decent gloves over the top!

I've known people do this from the battery, but they've all seemed to have the same problem with the heavy drain. The Vespa battery is 9Ah, the drain is much higher. That said, I'm pretty sure Andy at Scootering has commented that he uses them in the past? Ring a scooter shop up and ask them for an opinion.
All that said - I've used handlebar muffs for ten years, and I've never had damp or cold hands.

Just spoke with MSC and they say they've fitted heated grips to PX's before, the power output to charge the battery according to them is 70w which on a 12v system is about 5-6 amps so should be ok

Well let us know if the grips melt via the atomic generator now fitted to the PX. ;D

Remember - Amps not Watts are what you need to watch...
