I'm running in my Polini 177 kit, and keeping my speed at around 40-45 mph. I have read elsewhere that 300 miles without taking the throttle more than three quarters, and then edging it up gradually from there for another 200 miles. It can be pretty hilly around these parts too and i dont suppose that can be too good for running in eh? What mileage/Mph would be sufficient in your scooterists opinions? Cheers - Jase

I would just stick to exactly what the instructions say so you have a fighting chance of some comeback from the selling dealer if you end up with a problem.
The important thing is to just not rev it too hard, but dont just sit at the same revs for mile after mile either, needs to be varied.

I ran one of these kits in for 1000 miles. Took me about a month to do.
First 300 miles it never got above half throttle. The next 300 it was much the same with short bursts up to about 3/4 throttle. The next 300 were no more than 3/4 throttle and the last 100 were occasional blasts at flat out. Short bursts = maybe a mile or so, and like Bryn says, you need to vary the revs - my first 500 miles were all around town, up and down the gear box but never thrashed.
It ran in perfectly and I ended up with a scooter that would leave a P2 for dead, although it was ported etc.

All of the above, but I will add that on hills it's better to knock it down a gear and rev harder than to have the engine labouring.

Yeah, as the above. Keep the motor spinning and rise and fall the revs, so no constant throttle setting for long and DO NOT let it labour up hills etc. Much better to knock down a gear. I nipped up a Lammie after running it in for 600 miles or so, so don't get over confident (as I did!)

I know this isn't really the forum for it but while we're on the subject and kru251 is in the house ....
I am currently in the process of running in a Mugello 186 on my Lammy and technically I should have finished as was advised that it only needs running in for 50KM (blimey I'm speaking in KMs, been down under too long!) because of the nikasil lining. Does that sound right? Another mate said he would give it a least 200KM.
I've done ~100 miles I reckon so have been opening it up a bit more though not for stretches any longer than half a mile. Very curious to see what it can do and got it to 107KMPH this morning according to the Sip iPhone app anyway. Had a bit more in it too I think. Very inconsiderate of traffic to get in my way.

Nicasil is easier to run in, so I'd not be too surprised if that's right.
Was it a responsible adult who told you that, or a scooterist?

Well the last one we ran in like that we did for 250 MILES before stretching its legs a bit. Goes really well now. Yes, Nik's right that Nikasil bores are quicker to get the piston/rings bedded in etc but fer chr*sts sake don't nip it up as it ain't then just a standard rebore!!!!!

Well just after going from third to fourth the other night (but pretty much revved to the max, should have been less agressive with it) I felt what might have been a small nip. It was only a one second thing and I eased off straight away and it was fine then. I'll be taking it easy for a little while longer now!

Well, I hope you got lucky!!!! Subtle reminder from the engine to take it a bit easier for a while before giving it full beans.
