I m just about to change the oil in my gearbox on my t5mk1. i went to get the motor oil SAE 30 as reccommended in the haynes manual. The bloke in the bike shop suggested i try putoline light gearbox oil SAE 75w. Has anyone else tried this or know if it is ok to use or should i stick to what Haynes suggests?

Go with the SAE30 mate, there is no reason to start 'experimenting' with something different, bike shop probably doesnt have the 30 which is why they suggest something else Putoline SAE30 about £4 a 500ml bottle which will do you a good few oil changes..

sae75w is as i remember for later modern gearboxes, alot of newer cars only use this type, i would stick with the 30s oil personally

Thanks for the advice. Youre right bryno the shop didnt have any 30 thats why they reccommended the other stuff so i`ll just leave it and get the sae 30 somewhere else as at least I`ll know what im getting with that.
