Did a long run on my scoot today, got thinking about punctures.. I still bear the scars of a 70mph downhill blowout on a PE many years ago, so I've always been a bit wary.... Anyway, have seen the tyre 'slime' advertised for tubed tyres, wondered if anyone has used the stuff? any thoughts on whether it works or not?

i have slime in the tubes on my p125x and also in my tires on my typhoon 125 , i have seen the demo at bike show where they stab the tire (tubeless) with a screwdriver spin the tire and it seals the hole , the tire had loads of holes in it all where filled and the tire was still inflated , it sold me . as far as slime in tubes i have heard that it works ok in good quality inner tubes ( you can buy tubes pre-filled with slime ) , but cheap Taiwan ones tend to rip open when puncherd . the tires don't seem to need pumping up as often once you put this product in and it last as long as the tubes do. tire fitters hate the tubeless one when they get covered in it . ;D

Cheers guys, yeh, I'm not sure how effective it would be in a tube, I've had one puncture recently and that did not rip the tube, just a nail hole, guess slime may have worked in that situation, even if it slowed the rate of deflation down that would be better I've been reading about the tubeless tyres on the LCGB forum, lots mixed reviews, sounds like the quality of the rims is pretty variable, so I won't go that route at the mo.. Going to change tyres so will get some new (quality) tubes at the same time and maybe give the slime a go..

Bryno, did you try the slime and if so anything to report? I realise that if you haven't had a puncture it's difficult to do a review, but any problems with it? I've been thinking about getting some so any advice would be appreciated.

got both of my scoot tyres filled with GOOP,same thing i imagine,a member of our club died last year because of a blowout.gives you vital seconds to stop before the tyre deflates.worth doing cos it does give you them vital seconds to stop.and piece of mind.believe me it does work in tubed tyres.we've tried it out.

Thanks for that. That's sold it, I'll get some asap. The thought of a high speed rapid deflation doesn't bear thinking about.
Sorry to hear about your clubmate.
