Took my wheels off the other day while painting the hubs (you'd have to be Neil Buchananan to do them with them on). Anyway, noticed that the front one didn't have any washers for the 5 bolts holding it on while the rear one did. I presume there should be?
I recently had my front mudguard swapped so I'm guessing they forgot to put the washers back on, as I think I would have probably noticed the rear having them and the front not the last time I took the wheels of.

depends mate on ya nuts!!!!!!! flat washers and thin at that if your nuts have a blue/black nylon band in the top of the nut (nylock nuts) or if you have standard or domed nuts then fit stainless split washers. tends to help it stay attatched to the scoot!

Yes, they are the nylock type. Think I have some thin M8 washers knocking about somewhere. Thought I was going mad for a bit!
Also noticed that the spare wheel bolt at the bottom is missing along with the thread to bolt it on to. Is secure enough with just the 2 top ones but stuff like that irritates me, anyone know where I can get the thread/screw things from?

There isn't one at the bottom!! And make sure that if you're using nylocs that you only use them a few times as the nylon insert tends to slacken off after time making them useless.

The bottom one is used with covers, usually included if you buy one. If you want just buy an M10, or 8, can't remenber which. the right length.

Hmm, I could have swore the time before this when I took the spare off that there were were 3 bolts. Maybe I have gone mad after all Rob, yes not too bad. I just used to Halfords own brand paint for now to see how it goes. Put a couple of coats of grey primer and 3 or 4 black paint coats followed by a few clear lacquer. Time will tell how well it wears eh. I painted the hub centre covers white but I don't really like it so I'm going to spray them black too (after giving up on trying to find chrome ones to fit a disc model). Here's a pic:

So I see you got round to getting an engine stand mate, from Beedspeed? and how did the fitting go ?, I might invest in one of these, must make changing a rear flat a hell of a lot easier.

"Yes, from Beedspeed ... though it's the same part that a few other on-line retailers flog. I didn't fit it myself as it requires a bit of messing about to get it to fit an electric start model, I'm gonna have a go myself next time though if I get another one. The next time being because the bugger snapped the other night when I was putting the rear wheel back on I've used it once before to change the rear wheel and it was a doddle. This time however there wasn't nearly enough clearance to get the wheel in, the ground is pretty uneven where I'd put the scoot. As I was trying to get the wheel in the scoot came off the main stand and the engine one snapped slightly in the centre (so probably not particularly good quality metal) and I managed to catch the scooter at the rear (while simultaneously sh*tting myself and hoping that I wouldn't scrape my paintwork) wedge a paint can under the gear selector box and my toolbox under the centre of the scoot, blimey. Probably wasn't the best idea to do it in the dark, light is at a premium now though! In the end I had to completely deflate the tyre to give me enough clearance and even then it was hard work. So, metal not great and could do with being a bit longer too.

Was watching that Vespa maintenance DVD before with the amiable Sausage.
He had a bolt at the bottom of the spare wheel too and he didn't have a wheel cover. Maybe it's just with later PXs. Sanity restored!
