Hi everyone,
OK, first things first, if I've broken any rules with my sig pic being too big, my scoot is the wrong colour or anything else then let me know because the only rule I found was the size of the avitor.
Anyway, I've just found this site and thought that I'd join up and post what I've been doing. Being an old git of 57 and wanting to relive my youth I went about looking for a basket case of a scoot to do up over the winter and found this GS160, it was in bits with a lot of stuff missing or in need of replacement, some kind soul had cut all the wiring loom and left just the bit from the horn to just where it exits at the bottom of the frame near the exhaust - about 2-3 feet - nice!
I want to rebuild it in the style I remember when I was a MOD in 1965 (I was 16 then ) It's not supposed to be a Quadraphenia rip off or a anything else off - just memories I have.
Last weekend I had no excuse to start her up, I had a spark and compression, all I had to do was put some oil in the gearbox, add some fuel and oil and kick it over - so I did and guess what - it started ;D OK, not the first couple of kicks as I hadn't primed it and it seemed to take forever to get the fuel to the carb but start she did and it sounded good.
The plan is to competely build it up with everything on, mirrors, racks, floor strips etc until I'm happy with it then I shall take it all apart and give it to someone to restore the frame and all the metal work, I am going to get everything re-chromed (even the new stuff) and I shall rebuild the engine while the bodywork is away. This should start about November/December time if all goes to plan (so thats about June then )
When the body comes back fully restored and painted I will then reassemble it all ready for the Spring/Summer 2007.
In your opinions, who would be a good bet to get the body restored by, being very new to this then any help would be much appreciated.
I'll be popping in with new pics as and when I take anything I think will be of interest to you.
Cheers, Graham
