Hi, I'm new to vespa's, I've recently bought a 1965 small frame 90 which hasn't run since 1969, after not to much work it's once again running, the exhaust was blocked and I tried to clear it out without luck, any advice on what I should try, plus I bought a second hand Leo vince exhaust which states it should fit a small frame. 90 , the Muffler attaches to the frame properly but the other part which should goto the cylinder is nowhere near the right angle it should be, almost 45 deg's out. just wondered if anyone has had the same problems, as I said this is my first vespa so it's all abit of a learning curve. hello and welcome..
the smallframes have a really short 45 degree exhaust manifold, i'm guessing you need to remove this and fit the new exhaust direct to the barrel.
there are just 2 10mm nuts which hold the manifold to the barrel.
You'd need to remove the cylinder cowling to get to them really, thats a few screws on the front of the cowling.
easy job

Never had to do this on a scooter so far, but with old Garelli Rekord 50cc two stroke with very blocked and oily exhaust. I used a potato (yes, really) to block the exhaust outlet. Then, with a great deal of care, boiler suit on, long rubber gloves, goggles etc I added caustic soda to the inside of the silencer. This was made by adding caustic soda crystals to COLD water (not the other way round). This stuff burns so watch it! It will also remove chrome if your exhaust is plated. Leave standing for several hours until cool (yes, the mixture gets hot). Then empty the contents and flush really well with water in side and out. Dry it all out and it's amazing how much cr*p comes out 'in-the-wash'. I have to say this was carried out by me and I cannot advise anyone else that it is the correct thing to do. If you choose to follow this, it is at your own risk blah blah blah.

I got told on the VCB forum that you couldn't do that as it would eat the metal, despite me having done it several times... It's the reason I don't go on there any more, the same bloke claimed to be a professional chemist and a professional electronic expert in the space of a fortnight. I don't do bullsh*ters.
I'll not go into the petrol method of cleaning one out, no matter how spectacular it is I live in fear of getting sued after someone mistakes "half a cupful of fuel" for "a gallon" and sues me.
I'm sure you can work it out if you try though, it's great fun!
